About the Role

The Quality Engineer applies engineering theory and principles to manufacturing and production problems. Responsibilities include studying and recording production operations to establish standard rates, improve efficiency, and design effective quality assurance procedures. The role may focus on system-level processes or specific customer-related assignments, requiring high-caliber skills to ensure productivity, efficiency, and minimal waste.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret engineering drawings, schematic diagrams, or formulas and confer with management or engineering staff to determine quality and reliability standards and associated documentation.
  • Monitor and recommend modifications to existing quality or production standards, procedures, processes, or documentation to achieve optimum quality.
  • Evaluate data and write reports to validate or indicate deviations from existing standards.
  • Prepare graphs or charts of data or enter data into computer for analysis.
  • Record data applying statistical quality control procedures.
  • Compile and evaluate statistical data to determine and maintain quality and reliability of products.
  • Work with customer representatives to address nonconformance/MRB activity and corrective actions.
  • Aid in planning work assignments in accordance with worker performance, machine capacity, production schedules, or anticipated delays.
  • Confirm that all standard operating procedures are being completed.
  • Confirm that all operations comply with state and federal laws for safety and labor compliance.
  • Perform system internal audits to assess the health of the company Quality Management System.
  • Apply knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching, and instruction for individuals and groups, including measuring training effects.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field and/or equivalent years of experience.
  • 1 year of experience working in a Quality Department.

Skills

  • Advanced knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications.
  • Strong command of the English language, including grammar, spelling, and composition.
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Practical application of engineering science and technology, including principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment for process design and implementation.
  • Understanding of business and management principles, including leadership techniques, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
  • Knowledge of customer service principles, including needs assessment, quality standards, and customer satisfaction evaluation.

Physical Abilities

The employee must be able to work in both an office and production environment. Responsibilities may include:

  • Sitting at a keyboard for extended periods.
  • Exposure to noisy, dusty, or warm/cold production floor conditions.
  • Navigating areas with metal shavings or other materials on the floor.
