About the role
A Quality Engineer coordinates plant quality efforts from concept to customer, serving as a liaison between the company and customers to ensure product quality and customer satisfaction.
Responsibilities
- Act as customer liaison for quality-related communications and non-conformances.
- Manage customer scorecards and portal updates.
- Maintain IATF standards and prepare for annual IATF audits.
- Create and implement pre-launch and production process controls, including PFMEA and Control Plans.
- Develop Risk Priority Number (RPN) reduction plans for PFMEA.
- Ensure in-process inspections align with control plan requirements.
- Attend customer launch sites for all pre-launch builds.
- Conduct Measuring System Analysis (Gauge R&R) and assess measuring system capabilities.
- Develop gauge instructions and review supplier control plans and PFMEAs for improvement opportunities.
- Assess process capability index (Ppk) and use statistical software (e.g., Minitab) to develop improvement plans for critical characteristics.
- Apply knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC) software to resolve manufacturing issues internally and externally.
- Track and trend quality metrics, participate in core teams to drive change, and reduce scrap.
- Perform control plan process walks to confirm alignment with processes.
- Prepare receiving, lab, and final inspection instructions to meet customer specifications.
- Develop and implement Quality Operating System (QOS) improvement plans.
- Submit customer Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) paperwork.
- Perform additional duties as specified on the organizational chart or assigned.
Requirements
- 3–5 years of experience in Quality Assurance.
- Working knowledge of Advance Product Quality Planning (APQP) and Quality Operating System (QOS).
- Familiarity with IATF and/or European Value Delivery Analysis (VDA) standards.
- Ability to translate customer requirements into production processes.
- Proficiency in blueprint reading, metrology, statistical process control (SPC), and 8-D problem-solving.
- Bachelor’s degree in a Science discipline.
Skills
- Strong communication skills for internal and external collaboration.
- Experience with statistical software (e.g., Minitab).
- Knowledge of SPC and process capability analysis.
- Ability to develop and implement process controls and improvement plans.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work at a personal computer for extended periods.
- Occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds and frequent carrying of up to 30 pounds.
- Regular maneuvering in, around, under, and about factory and laboratory equipment.
- Time spent standing, walking, lifting, and bending.
- Exposure to heat, cold, wet conditions, and fumes/chemicals in an automotive manufacturing, office, and laboratory setting.
- Hearing and eye protection required in designated areas.
- Steel or composite-toed shoes may be required occasionally.
Travel
Ability to travel domestically and/or internationally, including air travel and long automobile trips.
