Quality Engineer

Technique is seeking a Quality Engineer to join our team at our Jackson, Michigan facility. This position reports to the Quality Manager and supports quality assurance through inspection, measurement, and compliance activities.

About the role

The Quality Engineer inspects and measures components and finished products to ensure compliance with engineering requirements, maintains quality records and metrics, and assists with dispositioning nonconforming product. This role develops quality procedures, leads improvement projects, and collaborates with customers, vendors, and internal teams to resolve quality-related issues while enhancing product development.

Responsibilities

• Perform advanced hand measurements, including 3D angles and GD&T callouts such as Cylindricity, Flatness, Perpendicularity, True Position, and Profile.
• Apply advanced GD&T knowledge to review customer documents, identify troublesome callouts, and teach GD&T to other staff members.
• Produce RMAs using the ERP system and follow up accordingly.
• Develop welded assemblies to meet engineering and customer requirements.
• Decipher scan data and improve PolyWorks measurement settings for accurate results.
• Support assembly GD&T development by understanding component part GD&T and its relation to the assembly, assisting the engineering team in developing component GD&T prints.
• Maintain quality system compliance by applying knowledge of ISO 9001, AS9100, and IATF-16949 to develop procedures and coordinate compliance efforts.
• Lead the department and substitute for the Quality Manager when they are off-site.
• Participate in APQP meetings to contribute to future jobs and manufacturing processes.
• Engage in customer Quality Review meetings, print assessments, and advocate for reasonable tolerances on Technique’s behalf.
• Design check fixtures and inspection aids in collaboration with Engineering and Quality departments, evaluate inspection holding fixtures, and propose solutions for fixture and measurement process issues.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree (preferred) or associate degree in engineering technology or another technical field, with 3–5 years of hands-on experience in a quality control discipline related to manufacturing or engineering (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).
• Strong knowledge and working experience with GD&T.
• Experience with Quality Management Systems (ISO-9001, AS-9100, IATF-16949).
• Hands-on experience with inspection equipment and software: CMM (PC-DMIS), laser inspection (PolyWorks), SPC (Minitab), calibration (GAGEpack), surface plate and height gages, profilometers, optical comparators, thread/pin gages, micrometers, calipers, bore gages, and angle gages.
• Strong root-cause analysis skills and understanding of problem-solving tools (e.g., 5 Whys, fishbone diagrams).
• Deadline- and detail-oriented with strong time management skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Understanding of component and assembly prints/part drawings.
• Commitment to working safely in accordance with company and department-specific safety procedures.
• Ability to work overtime and maintain flexibility in work schedule.
• Largely sedentary role with occasional work on the manufacturing floor; ability to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
• Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with exposure to fumes, airborne particles, hazardous chemicals, moving mechanical parts, industrial equipment, vibration, and loud noise.
• Minimal travel may be required.
• Must be eligible to work in the United States (U.S. citizenship, Work Visa, or H1B sponsorship).

Schedule

This is a full-time, non-exempt position requiring a minimum of 40 hours per week with overtime as needed. Flexibility in days and hours is required.
