About the role
We are seeking a highly skilled Quality Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in quality assurance and test engineering, particularly in backend financial, fintech, or regulated systems. This role requires a strong technical background, critical thinking, and the ability to work effectively across engineering, business, and audit-focused teams.
Responsibilities
- Design and execute functional, regression, integration, end-to-end, and non-functional test plans across multi-step financial workflows and state transitions.
- Validate complex financial computations, reconcile data across transactional and analytical layers, and write SQL queries to verify correctness and consistency.
- Translate SOX, internal-control, business, and technical requirements into executable test cases in collaboration with developers, accounting, and control stakeholders.
- Test maker-checker workflows, role-based access boundaries, and segregation-of-duties controls, including negative cases, via API testing.
- Validate event-driven workflows across services, ensuring message delivery, processing order, idempotency, and failure handling.
- Ensure audit events are generated for every controlled state change and captured accurately in an immutable evidence store.
- Test inbound and outbound data for schema correctness, completeness, failure handling, and reconciliation.
- Produce audit-ready artifacts, including test plans, results narratives, and evidence packages.
- Track defects through their lifecycle, ensuring traceability and resolution.
- Design and maintain automated test suites, integrating test scenarios into CI/CD pipelines.
- Generate and manage test data.
- Review logs, query data, and troubleshoot issues across application, integration, and data layers.
- Participate in sprint ceremonies, release readiness reviews, and production support triage as needed.
- Help establish and improve QA processes, standards, and best practices.
Requirements
- 3+ years of QA/test engineering experience in backend financial, fintech, or regulated systems.
- Proficiency in Python with hands-on experience using pytest for test automation.
- Strong test automation skills with experience integrating tests into CI/CD pipelines (Playwright is a plus).
- Strong SQL skills for data validation, reconciliation, and control testing.
- Experience with SOX or internal-controls testing, including segregation-of-duties and audit-reviewed evidence.
- Experience testing REST APIs using tools like Postman or REST-assured.
- Critical thinking and attention to detail, with the ability to produce clear, audit-ready documentation.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with engineering, business, and audit teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Java services and testing within Java-based microservice environments.
- Experience testing financial data for correctness, including calculations, reconciliations, and valuations.
- Experience validating immutable or append-only audit data.
- Experience with FastAPI backends and PostgreSQL systems of record.
- Experience in financial services, fintech, or other highly regulated environments.
- Knowledge of cloud services and deployment patterns in AWS.
- Familiarity with Agile/Scrum delivery practices.
