About the role

The Quality Engineer will provide technical quality leadership across the value stream, including raw material, internal and external manufacturing. The role focuses on organizational and process capability to minimize overall Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ) using proven methods in Quality Assurance, Quality Control, AS9100, Reliability Engineering, Lean Manufacturing, and Six Sigma.

Responsibilities

  • Reduce overall COPQ, including scrap and escapes, to meet annualized goal targets.
  • Report COPQ results and use them to drive or facilitate root cause and corrective actions for sustainable reductions.
  • Improve machine capability as a critical driver of cost and implement process control systems.
  • Work closely with Supply Chain to improve supplier quality levels, including travel to supplier locations as needed.
  • Support daily quality activities during high-demand or staffing shortages.
  • Develop CMM and SmartScope programs/fixturing and other advanced inspection techniques.
  • Assist and train inspectors on proper inspection processes and techniques.
  • Participate in contract review and FMEA processes to identify and address risks in manufacturing.
  • Investigate, problem-solve, and respond to customer quality concerns, coordinating and closing the resolution process.
  • Lead CAPA activities using effective root cause analysis to ensure corrective actions are taken.
  • Develop inspection and in-process control plans for parts.
  • Perform routine inspections to support production and revenue goals.
  • Support production in part measurement, scrap reduction, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Support Material Review Board activities to ensure non-compliant material is dispositioned.
  • Provide supplier quality engineering support as needed.
  • Create and maintain long- and short-term metrics to drive improvement.
  • Train, guide, and develop Quality Department staff on quality standards and methodology.
  • Perform internal audits to ensure compliance with the quality system.
  • Assist the Quality Manager as required.

Requirements

  • 4-year degree in Quality, Engineering, or other technology-related program.
  • ASQ CQE certification preferred.
  • 5 years of prior experience in aerospace quality engineering, preferably in a precision machining environment.
  • Specific knowledge of quality theory, systems, operations, and methods, including statistical process control, capability studies, gaging methods, and GD&T.
  • Specific knowledge of AS9100 standards.
  • Strong communication skills for customer interactions.
  • Ability to read and write in English.
  • Proficiency in advanced math functions.
  • Excellent computer skills.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Eligibility to work with sensitive controlled data and materials according to ITAR policy and practice.
  • Ability to obtain a secret security clearance is highly desirable.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, or protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3) to comply with U.S. Government international trade regulations.
