About the Role
This position is responsible for achieving and safely maintaining optimum process performance and control in the following areas:
- Conformance, quality, receipt, and unloading of batch and sizing raw materials
- Manufacture and delivery of sizing to the forming process
- Ensuring finished products meet or exceed customer expectations
- Initiating and participating in plant continuous improvement activities (safety, quality, productivity, and cost)
Responsibilities
- Promote and maintain safety goals, ensuring a safe work environment for all associates
- Lead safety and housekeeping efforts, including corrective actions within assigned projects and areas
- Exemplify safety in all actions and lead by example
- Stimulate and maintain associate interest in producing the highest quality products through training and communication
- Lead and manage the plant's quality system by implementing and monitoring quality control procedures and utilizing SPC methods for incoming raw materials and finished products
- Promote a prevention-oriented, data-driven quality system and culture by facilitating problem-solving and documentation
- Communicate with customers and suppliers regarding product quality reporting and concerns
- Ensure customer satisfaction by investigating quality complaints, identifying root causes, and implementing corrective actions
- Participate in joint technical meetings with customers, suppliers, and other facilities
- Lead and direct the Quality Lab, including process ownership, documentation, supervision of Quality Technicians, and management of lab equipment and software
- Audit raw material suppliers
- Lead and direct the process of unloading raw materials (truck and rail), including process ownership, documentation, and supervision of Raw Material Specialists (RMS)
- Coordinate with logistics and provide direction for raw material unloading
- Manage chemical inventory, sizing mixing processes, and personnel
- Be available for contact after business hours for abnormal production or quality events
Requirements
- Ability and willingness to maintain expected attendance levels, working every scheduled day on time
- Bachelor of Science in engineering (mechanical, electrical, chemical, materials) or related field
- Experience in the fiberglass industry is preferred
- Six Sigma Green Belt certification and experience in SPC
- Black Belt Certification preferred
- Experience managing people, multiple priorities, and projects
Skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written)
- Supervision of direct and indirect team members
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Office products
- Working knowledge of Minitab software
- Experience with Quality System software
- Extensive working experience with statistical process control (SPC) methods and analysis
Training Requirements
- All training necessary to stay current in quality and statistical process control
- General and job-specific training, including safety, supervisory, and team-building

- Regularly bends, stoops, stretches, and reaches

- Frequent movement about the facility to survey plant and associates
- Regular operation of computers and other office equipment
PPE Requirements
- Safety glasses with side shields, earplugs, safety shoes, and gloves where required
- Follow all other PPE requirements for specific job tasks
