Quality Engineer
Illinois Tool Works (ITW) is a Fortune 200 company producing diversified products in global markets, including welding equipment, automotive components, construction materials, and commercial food equipment. The Food Equipment Group is one of seven decentralized ITW business segments. This role is within the Warewash Division at the Troy, Ohio facility, located 20 minutes north of Dayton. The Warewash Division manufactures Hobart, Stero, and Somat branded commercial dishwashers, waste equipment, and disposers for hotels, restaurants, cruise ships, schools, and other environments.
About the role
As the Reliability and Quality Engineer, you will provide detailed quality planning for new product development projects and existing products to ensure conformance with engineering and marketing specifications and quality management systems. This position evaluates field performance data, conducts reliability testing, and uses problem-solving skills to improve product quality and uptime. You will recommend improvements in designs, processes, and procedures to assure quality from development to production.
This role involves agency compliance, FMEA’s (failure mode effect analysis), DVP&R (design verification plan and report), root cause analysis investigations, and customer escalation support. The position works in lab, field, and office settings, including hands-on testing and teardown of machines, data collection and interpretation, presentation of data and solutions, and participation on project teams.
Responsibilities
- Provide detailed quality planning for new product development projects and existing products.
- Evaluate field performance data and conduct reliability testing to improve product quality and uptime.
- Recommend improvements in designs, processes, and procedures.
- Ensure agency compliance, perform FMEA’s, and develop DVP&R.
- Conduct root cause analysis investigations and support customer escalations.
- Interact with customers to build relationships through issue resolution.
- Provide guidance to service technicians for successful field repairs.
- Work with suppliers on product requirements.
- Support Quality Management Systems and execute projects within specified timelines.
- Perform advanced data analysis and maintain detailed, organized, and proactive work practices.
Requirements
- BS Degree in Quality, Engineering, or Operations Management.
- 3-5 years of quality or manufacturing engineering experience.
- Quality control experience in a product development environment.
- Reliability testing experience.
- Product development experience in manufacturing.
- Fabrication and/or design/drafting experience.
- Preferred experience reading/creating technical drawings and documents.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications.
- Effective written, verbal, and presentation skills.
- Passion for continuous improvement through root cause analysis and problem-solving.
- Ability to maintain a positive, results-oriented mindset.
