Quality Engineer

About the Role

This position reports directly to the Quality Manager and is responsible for supporting company policies, business objectives, and continuous improvement activities. The role emphasizes teamwork, problem-solving, and adherence to safety and quality standards to ensure a positive and productive workplace.

Responsibilities

• Follow the principles of the Value Statement and Mission Statement to foster a fair and consistent workplace.
• Support company policies, lean initiatives, and continuous improvement programs.
• Exhibit teamwork and problem-solving skills in a collaborative environment.
• Adhere to all safety and health policies, reporting unsafe conditions, accidents, and near misses promptly.
• Maintain proper ergonomics and work safely at all times.
• Ensure compliance with customer quality standards and IAC standards.
• Complete Layered Process Audits (LPAs) and Safe Audits weekly.
• Maintain professional etiquette in all company communications (radios, emails, phones).
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Customer Quality Responsibilities

• Train operators in standardized processes.
• Coordinate dimensional evaluations and complete capability studies.
• Audit and document quality systems, troubleshoot assembly issues, and work closely with manufacturing teams, suppliers, and customers.
• Enforce and maintain the LPA process.
• Troubleshoot quality issues with Operations and Technical departments.
• Conduct root cause analysis using the fast-track response process.
• Assist in developing and mentoring Quality Technicians.
• Support the Quality Manager in daily functions as needed.
• Serve as an internal TS and/or ISO Auditor.
• Create, maintain, and validate CMM programs for measuring manufactured and supplied parts using PC DMIS+CAD software.
• Read and interpret GD&T to determine dimensions and tolerance specifications.
• Prepare sample submissions (PPAP), including final product inspection for PPAP, Engineering, Production Trial Run, and other samples.
• Assist Process Engineers with qualification and validation of new or changed tooling, fixtures, and parts.
• Analyze inspection reports to ensure adherence to drawings and specifications, troubleshooting failure modes.
• Support manufacturing/production personnel with inspection activities.
• Ensure gauge calibration is carried out according to ISO/TS16949 standards.
• Maintain laboratory equipment.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree with 2-4 years of related experience or 3-5 years of related experience in a quality manufacturing environment (automotive preferred).
• Good computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft products.
• 1+ years of CMM programming or operating experience.
• Conceptual knowledge of Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) and relevant requirements (preferred).
• Working knowledge of SPC, capability studies, PFMEAs, and Control Plans.
• Strong attention to detail, multitasking, and ability to follow directions.
• Excellent judgment, decision-making, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Analytical problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to work under pressure, manage competing demands, and meet tight deadlines.
• Capable of working with minimal supervision.

Training & Travel

This position may require travel to other facilities or training locations, as well as on-site training as needed.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

This role requires the use of eye protection, hearing protection, and any task-specific PPE.

Physical Demands

• Ability to stand or sit for 8-12 hours per day.
• Occasional lifting of up to 40 lbs and regular lifting of up to 15 lbs.
• Capable of performing overhead work and tasks below the waist.
