About the Role

The Quality Engineer supports and promotes plant-wide quality improvement efforts. This role leads and maintains the PPAP Process and supporting functions, evaluates and develops improvement techniques for quality and reliability, and maintains quality management systems through various audits (Layered, Flex-N-Gate, Customer-required, Control Plan). The engineer collaborates with employees, suppliers, and customers to produce quality products that meet or exceed requirements, coordinates corrective actions, and drives continuous quality improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Handle customer issues and review customer testing requirements to ensure systems are in place to meet them.
  • Work with suppliers to ensure testing requirements are met and oversee the PPAP process.
  • Ensure production is manufacturing quality products to specifications.
  • Support the upkeep of the calibration system, maintain records, and ensure gages and equipment are calibrated within required timelines.
  • Provide onsite support to customers and suppliers as needed.
  • Support prototype builds and document according to the prototype checklist inspection process.
  • Collect SPC data, report monthly, and collaborate with manufacturing on process improvements.
  • Support manufacturing in developing job instructions and procedures.
  • Document all activities as required.
  • Maintain compliance with company guidelines, union contracts, international quality standards (e.g., ISO, IATF), and applicable government regulations.
  • Define and implement "Customer indicators" to monitor customer satisfaction and report findings to management.
  • Make decisions regarding the disposition of non-conforming material, ensuring proper containment and follow-up.
  • Perform additional assignments as directed by management.
  • Advise on improvements in tracking and reporting procedures.

Requirements

  • Preferred Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) Certificate.
  • Preferred 3-5 years of related work experience.
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma.
  • Understanding of production processes, machines, tools, including design and uses.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Proficiency with database applications, Microsoft Office, and statistical software.
  • Ability to work effectively alone and prioritize tasks.
  • Highly motivated, service and team-oriented with a strong attention to detail.
  • Enthusiasm for challenge and new initiatives.
  • Strong analytical, supervisory, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven troubleshooting ability.
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated internal and external customer service skills.
  • Good presentation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Proficiency in GD&T/Blueprint reading and understanding engineering specifications.
