Salary commensurate with experience* Job Title: Quality Engineer Location: Albany, NY (Hybrid) Duration: 31 Months (with potential for extension) Start Date: estimated - 10/8/2026 W2 Hourly Rate: $58-68/hour Application Deadline: 9/4/2026 Overview: We are seeking a Quality Engineer who will support our NYS client. This role will ensure the quality and reliability of a large-scale, mission-critical child support platform being modernized from a legacy monolith to an AWS-deployed microservices architecture spanning web applications, REST APIs, batch processing, and system integrations. The Quality Engineer will work within an Agile team to define test strategies, perform manual and automated testing, validate data and distributed-system behavior, and identify defects early across all application layers. Duties:Develop and execute comprehensive test plans, test cases, and test scripts for web, API, batch, and integration components.Perform functional, regression, integration, end-to-end, and exploratory testing across microservices.Design and implement automated test suites for REST APIs and web applications.Validate Spring Batch jobs for data accuracy, completeness, and performance under high-volume scenarios.Test inter-service communication, messaging flows, and integration points with external agencies.Identify, document, and track defects with clear reproduction steps and severity classification.Collaborate with developers, business analysts, and product owners to clarify requirements and acceptance criteria.Participate in sprint planning, story grooming, and definition of done discussions.Perform database validation using SQL queries against PostgreSQL to verify data integrity.Conduct performance and load testing for APIs and batch processes.Verify deployments across development, QA, staging, and production environments.Contribute to CI/CD pipeline quality gates by maintaining and improving automated test coverage.Review and provide feedback on technical and functional documentation.Perform other duties as assigned. Mandatory Qualifications:7+ years of experience working on complex projects, including 2+ years in a leadership role as a Tester.5+ years of software quality assurance experience with strong experience testing Java-based applications, particularly Spring Boot microservices.Strong understanding of microservices architecture and distributed systems testing challenges.Hands-on experience with API testing tools.1-5 years of experience executing SQL queries for data validation; PostgreSQL is preferred.1-5 years of experience with test automation frameworks, defect tracking and test management tools, and Git version control.Strong understanding of Agile/Scrum methodologies.Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.Experience with government or public sector projects, particularly child support or social services systems.Experience with performance/load testing tools.Familiarity with AWS services including ECS, RDS, SQS, and CloudWatch, and testing cloud-deployed applications.Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and integrating automated tests into build processes.Experience with contract testing for microservices.Knowledge of BDD frameworks and testing batch processing systems and scheduled jobs.Experience with accessibility testing and monitoring/log analysis for defect investigation using CloudWatch or Splunk.Understanding of security testing fundamentals, including OWASP.ISTQB or similar QA certification.
