Role summary / purpose

We are seeking a Warranty Engineer to join the Field Quality & Control Tower team at the Headquarters & Technical Center in Auburn Hills, MI. The Warranty Engineer will assist in the administration and coordination of multiple vehicle systems, including compiling project status reports, coordinating project schedules, managing project meetings, agendas, minutes and correspondence. The incumbent will report to a team lead or supervisor/manager and should have knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures for automotive and powertrain development. Opportunities are available in the Propulsion System Group in the areas of HVAC, Cooling, Intake & Exhaust.

Key responsibilities

  • Facilitate cross-functional project meetings, compile project status reports, coordinate project schedules, agendas, minutes and correspondence
  • Identify and analyze system requirements, and define project scope, requirements, and deliverables involving multiple stakeholders
  • Lead the resolution of warranty-related issues and be accountable for problem-solving process, proposed solutions, validation, and weekly progress reporting
  • Lead triage activities including warranty claims review, sorting claims and bucketing, review and call vehicles at dealers, and support quality engineering reviews at manufacturing locations
  • Establish and validate containment and permanent actions by physically reviewing product/process changes, internal metrics and control plan updates

Requirements - education & experience

  • Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.Sc) in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university
  • 5+ years of experience in Product Engineering
  • 2+ years of experience in testing/validation/test method development, including fixture design, instrumentation, and data acquisition

Required skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Well-rounded automotive knowledge and ability to work well in a team-oriented environment
  • Ability to manage unionized workforce
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications, specifically MS Excel and Project
  • Working knowledge of Teamcenter
  • Working knowledge of GD&T and understanding of full detail on drawings

Nice-to-have / preferred skills

  • Master's degree in engineering
  • Shainin RedX Black Belt certification
  • Green Belt or Kepner Tregoe certification
  • Design for Six Sigma
  • Project Management experience
