About the Role
This position involves creating, testing, and maintaining inspection programs for Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) to ensure production standards are met. The role requires a strong understanding of CNC programming, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), and quality inspection processes. You will work in a team environment to support smooth operations across all production stages.
Responsibilities
- Develop, test, and maintain CMM inspection programs for both manual and DCC machines using CMM Manager software.
- Provide input for new gage and fixture designs, focusing on GD&T and CMM measurement accessibility.
- Participate in the APQP process, including gage and fixture design and developing quick-change processes for CMMs.
- Perform quality inspection checks (first piece, hourly, final, last piece) and implement hold tags for non-conforming products.
- Conduct gauge calibration and Gage R&R (Repeatability and Reproducibility) studies.
- Maintain safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
- Perform preventive maintenance on equipment, troubleshoot malfunctions, and coordinate repairs.
- Document and communicate actions, irregularities, and continuing needs to ensure continuity across work shifts.
- Support day-to-day quality and production deliverables and initiatives.
- Lead continuous improvement efforts (e.g., 5S, internal audits) in Buildings 1 and 2.
- Document testing and root cause analysis for internal or external quality issues.
- Create work instructions and collaborate with Quality Management (QM) and Manufacturing Engineering (ME) to address manufacturing issues.
- Operate CMM machines using hand tools and precision measuring instruments.
- Accept ownership for new and varied requests, exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
- Ensure parts meet customer and company quality standards.
- Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of experience.
- Strong knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
- Proficiency in CMM software and ability to mount, install, align, and secure tools, attachments, and fixtures.
- Experience working with various materials and understanding their reactions to machining processes.
- Strong math skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Knowledge of XL products and manufacturing processes.
- Strong prioritization, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to perform risk analysis and critical thinking.
- Interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment.
- Ability to handle stress and work in a fast-paced setting.
