About the role

As a Quality Engineer you will be part of the team responsible for product quality assessment and improvement. Responsibilities include product inspection, dispositioning, and product applications. You will collaborate with Quality Engineers, Process Engineers, management, and employees to enhance product quality through standard practices, process control, and understanding customer requirements. Additionally, you will work with Technical Service Engineers to evaluate customer issues related to mill practices and provide technical assistance and quality support to the Quality and Operations management groups.

Responsibilities

  • Apply solid metallurgical skills to provide technical advice and direction to the organization.
  • Follow all Safety policies and address safety issues promptly.
  • Ensure technical standards and work instructions support product quality and NLMK Production System (NPS) requirements; identify opportunities to improve safety, quality, cost, organization, or efficiency.
  • Report daily on Day/WTD/MTD/YTD quality performance metrics.
  • Utilize automated data collection/analysis systems to gather and analyze data for product and process quality improvement; communicate necessary changes to processes and practices.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with production and maintenance teams to assess and communicate product quality issues.
  • Assist in investigations related to quality issues.
  • Train workforce on Quality Standards.
  • Maintain professional integrity in all areas of performance.
  • Review slab quality data (qualitative and quantitative) to determine applicability to customer order requirements.
  • Evaluate customer quality issues related to the mill, gather data, and analyze trials.
  • Interface with Engineers to translate mill data and establish mill capability limits.
  • Evaluate product quality of material produced and disposition as prime, rework, or reclass.
  • Observe product quality at outside processing units to evaluate and disposition product as necessary.
  • Perform other related work as required.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, or a similar engineering field.
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years’ experience working in a Quality Engineer function with a solid foundation of technical knowledge, skills, and abilities.
