Quality Engineer
About the role
The Power & Interface IC Supply Chain R&D Engineer serves as the technical owner of the power management and interface IC supply base supporting Company’s data-center SSD products. This role focuses on developing, qualifying, and managing relationships with power and interface IC suppliers and their OSAT partners to ensure component capacity, quality, reliability, and supply continuity. The position requires strong technical expertise in analog and mixed-signal IC technologies, power delivery, high-speed interface signaling, component qualification, and semiconductor supply chain management. Working in a fully remote environment, the engineer will collaborate cross-functionally with hardware design, package engineering, quality, logistics, and supplier teams while supporting new product introductions and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Develop, qualify, and manage power and interface IC suppliers and their OSAT partners to ensure technical capacity, quality, reliability, and supply objectives are achieved.
- Establish and maintain technical supplier scorecards measuring on-time delivery, quality performance, yield, reliability, and responsiveness.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives with strategic suppliers and OSAT partners to improve manufacturing yield, cycle time, and overall performance.
- Develop and maintain dual-source and second-source strategies to reduce single-source risks and strengthen supply chain resilience.
- Coordinate technical reviews between Company hardware and package design teams and supplier application and process engineering teams.
- Evaluate device selection, process technologies, package options, and revision trade-offs against reliability, yield, cost, and schedule requirements.
- Support new product introduction activities by ensuring suppliers and OSAT partners meet technical and operational readiness requirements.
- Partner with Supplier Quality Engineering teams to manage component quality excursions, containment activities, corrective actions, and requalification efforts.
- Participate in and support 8D root-cause analysis activities involving suppliers and manufacturing partners.
- Champion Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Reliability (DFR) initiatives between suppliers, OSAT partners, and internal engineering teams.
- Represent the power and interface IC supply chain organization during NPI reviews and cross-functional program meetings.
- Collaborate with Hardware Design Engineering, Signal Integrity, Power Integrity, Package Engineering, Quality, Logistics, and supplier organizations to resolve technical and supply challenges.
- Serve as the primary escalation point for power and interface IC supply issues and coordinate resolutions across global stakeholders.
- Facilitate communication and collaboration with suppliers and partners across Taiwan, Korea, and Japan.
- Support domestic and international travel for supplier reviews, qualification builds, capacity assessments, technical discussions, and issue resolution activities.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or a related technical field.
- Master’s degree in engineering, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in semiconductor supply chain R&D, component engineering, product engineering, hardware engineering, or reliability engineering.
- At least 2 years of direct experience supporting the sourcing, qualification, development, or management of power management ICs, interface ICs, or analog/mixed-signal semiconductor devices.
- Experience working with semiconductor suppliers, manufacturing partners, and cross-functional engineering organizations.
- Demonstrated experience supporting supplier qualification, reliability assessments, and new product introduction activities.
- Experience working within distributed teams and collaborating across multiple time zones.
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment with minimal supervision.
- Ability to clearly present supply chain risks, technical issues, and recommendations to management and cross-functional stakeholders.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
- Position may be subject to applicable export control requirements.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required.
Skills
- Strong understanding of analog and mixed-signal IC technologies.
- Knowledge of power delivery architectures, PMICs, voltage regulators, and related power management devices.
- Knowledge of high-speed interface technologies, including re-timers, re-drivers, level shifters, and related signaling solutions.
- Understanding of signal integrity and power integrity fundamentals.
- Familiarity with semiconductor component qualification methodologies and reliability testing concepts.
- Knowledge of OSAT assembly, packaging, and final test processes.
- Experience conducting supplier performance evaluations and managing technical supplier relationships.
- Root-cause analysis and problem-solving capabilities.
- Strong cross-functional collaboration, communication, and presentation skills.
- Ability to manage technical projects and coordinate activities across global organizations.
Preferred Skills
- Direct experience with PMICs, voltage regulators, load switches, level shifters, re-timers, re-drivers, or similar power and interface IC technologies used in storage, server, or networking products.
- Familiarity with SSD products, storage solutions, and hardware power architecture considerations.
- Established relationships with leading power and interface IC suppliers and OSAT partners.
- Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
- Conversational Mandarin, Japanese, or Korean language skills.
Pay
$46.97 - $46.97/hour. Non-exempt positions are eligible for overtime at a rate of 1.5 times the base hourly rate for all hours worked in excess of 40 in a work week, or as required by state or local law.
