Summary
The Quality Engineer coordinates, administers, and performs quality functions to ensure product quality and reliability at minimum cost. This role leads the successful launch of new programs, serves as the main quality point of contact for internal and external customers, and resolves quality-related issues.
Responsibilities
- Ensure continuous improvement in Production Quality Deliverables (e.g., RTY, Craftsmanship, RPPM, CPPM, SPPM, Warranty/JD Power).
- Prepare PPAP packages for product submissions and obtain approval from the Product Service Manager or Quality Manager before submission to customers.
- Resolve customer and supplier quality issues using Adient problem-solving methods (Kepner-Tregoe, 8-D, etc.).
- Perform gage studies (Gage R&R, Bias, Linearity, and Stability) before production use or after product changes.
- Develop and update control plans, inspection plans, and containment plans as required.
- Support Manufacturing Engineers in updating PFMEA.
- Utilize customer-specific systems and conduct capability studies, ensuring proper documentation for special characteristics.
- Support continuous improvement of Operation Description Sheets (ODS).
- Identify and apply appropriate statistical tools; mentor team members on statistical techniques.
- Assess and approve post-SOP supplier PPAPs.
- Serve as the single point of contact for external customers to resolve issues.
- Coordinate preparation and on-time delivery of supplier AQP deliverables.
- Ensure completion of all customer-specific advanced quality planning requirements.
- Promote strong customer relations through professionalism, responsiveness, and a willingness to assist.
- Resolve customer issues with urgency, including facilitating sorting/rework activities at customer sites.
- Occasional travel (10–25%) to support customer sites.
- Study, establish, and maintain safe work practices and procedures in coordination with HR and Manufacturing Engineering.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (or equivalent experience) with specific training in Quality disciplines (ISO/TS 16949, Continuous Improvement, TQM, PPAP, FMEA, Control Plans, DOE, SPC).
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, drawings/blueprints (including GD&T), and procedure manuals.
- Strong knowledge of SPC techniques, DOE, and MSA.
- Computer literacy and proficiency in creating visual aids for communication.
- Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills with root-cause determination.
- Three years of supervisory experience in manufacturing preferred.
Experience
- Manufacturing experience required; automotive seating mechanisms experience strongly preferred.
- Experience with Welding (GMAW and Laser) and Assembly processes.
- Minimum of five years in a Quality Technician and/or Quality Engineer role, preferably in high-volume manufacturing.
- Three years of automotive Tier 1, Tier 2, or Tier 3 supplier experience preferred.
- Consistent employment record with good attendance; adaptable to a team environment.
