Job Title: Quality Test Engineer Job Description The Quality Test Engineer is responsible for failure analysis, qualification testing, and reliability monitoring of semiconductor devices, including high-voltage, analog, mixed-signal integrated circuits, and optically isolated devices. This role conducts detailed investigations into customer field failures, performs comprehensive electrical and physical testing, and delivers timely, high-quality reports. The engineer owns and manages the site failure analysis laboratory, supports quality and compliance programs, and collaborates closely with cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement in product reliability and performance. Responsibilities Lead failure analysis (FA) activities for semiconductor devices, including high-voltage, analog, mixed-signal ICs, and optically isolated devices.Perform detailed analysis of customer field failure samples using visual and microscopic inspection, photo documentation, and other appropriate FA techniques.Conduct automated test equipment (ATE) testing, bench electrical characterization, x-ray analysis, chemical or laser decapsulation, thermal characterization, and related methods to determine root cause of failures.Coordinate with external laboratories when advanced or specialized failure analysis techniques are required.Perform investigation triage and deep-dive analyses to develop hypotheses for failure mechanisms and troubleshoot new failure modes.Prepare and complete clear, accurate, and timely failure analysis reports within tight deadlines.Conduct qualification and reliability testing to qualify new and improved products and monitor reliability of existing products.Analyze qualification and reliability results and prepare comprehensive qualification reports.Own and manage the site FA laboratory, ensuring organized operation, safe use of equipment, and adherence to established procedures.Oversee lab equipment maintenance and calibration to ensure reliable and accurate test results.Create, maintain, and improve operating procedures for lab activities and testing techniques.Train team members and other users on lab procedures, equipment operation, and best practices.Drive continuous improvement in testing techniques, methodologies, and lab processes.Support ISO 9001 and IATF compliance audits and internal audits by providing documentation, data, and technical input.Contribute to broader quality programs and initiatives, applying quality control principles and methodologies.Collaborate closely with qualification engineers, technicians, and the R&D team to resolve issues and enhance product reliability.Apply fault tree analysis, 5 Why (5Y), and FMEA methods to systematically identify and address root causes of failures.Perform component-level testing and reliability engineering activities as needed.Carry out other related duties as assigned to support the quality and reliability function. Essential Skills Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.One or more years of relevant experience in electronics, test engineering, or related fields.Hands-on experience with failure analysis and/or bench electronic testing equipment.Thorough understanding of electronics and integrated circuit behavior.Ability to perform component-level testing and electrical circuit testing.Experience with failure analysis methodologies, including FMEA, fault tree analysis, and 5 Why (5Y).Knowledge of semiconductor devices, including analog and mixed-signal ICs and optically isolated devices.Proficiency with automated test equipment (ATE) and related test setups.Ability to conduct bench electrical characterization, x-ray analysis, and decapsulation (chemical and/or laser).Experience in reliability engineering and reliability monitoring for semiconductor products.Familiarity with semiconductor IC product design, applications, manufacturing, and reliability considerations.Knowledge of industry standards such as JEDEC and AEC.Understanding of quality control principles, methodologies, and continuous improvement practices.Strong skills in root cause analysis and structured problem-solving.Ability to prepare clear, concise, and accurate technical reports within tight time frames. Additional Skills & Qualifications Master’s degree in electrical engineering is a plus.Experience working in a dedicated failure analysis laboratory environment.Prior involvement in ISO 9001 and IATF compliance audits or internal quality audits.Experience supporting or leading qualification testing for new and improved semiconductor products.Comfort with using visual and microscopic inspection tools and documenting findings with high-quality photographs.Exposure to quality programs and continuous improvement initiatives in a manufacturing or R&D environment.Strong collaboration skills and ability to work closely with qualification engineers, technicians, and R&D teams.Ability to manage multiple investigations simultaneously while meeting deadlines.Attention to detail and a systematic approach to testing and documentation.Willingness to learn new testing techniques and adopt emerging failure analysis technologies. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Beverly, MA. Pay And Benefits The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.85/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
