About the role
The Quality Control Manager oversees all aspects of quality assurance and control in the precast concrete production process. This role ensures that all products meet internal standards, customer specifications, and applicable industry codes. The QC Manager leads a team of technicians and works cross-functionally with production, engineering, and safety teams to maintain consistent quality and compliance with PCI, ASTM, ACI, and other regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain the plant's quality control procedures and standards.
- Oversee the inspection and testing of raw materials, in-process production, and finished products.
- Ensure all products conform to design drawings, specifications, and tolerances.
- Maintain and calibrate testing equipment (slump test, air content, cylinders, etc.).
- Supervise and train QC technicians and production staff in quality procedures and standards.
- Maintain all quality documentation, including test records, inspection reports, and NCRs.
- Conduct root cause analysis and corrective actions for non-conforming products.
- Review and approve concrete mix designs in collaboration with engineering.
- Coordinate with third-party inspectors and customers regarding product compliance.
- Ensure compliance with PCI plant certification requirements and support audit readiness.
- Promote continuous improvement in quality, safety, and production processes.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Materials, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum 5 years of experience in quality control, preferably in a precast or concrete manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of PCI, ACI, ASTM, and local construction standards.
- ACI and/or PCI certifications required (e.g., PCI Level II or III, ACI Field Grade I).
- Experience with ISO 9001 quality management systems is an asset.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and quality control software tools.
Working Conditions
- Primarily plant-based with exposure to outdoor and manufacturing environments.
- May require standing, walking, and lifting concrete samples or equipment.
- Occasional travel to job sites or to attend certification training may be required.
