Quality Assurance Technician -Day Shift
About the role
The Quality Assurance Technician protects the quality and safety of dietary supplement and nutrition products while they are stored and shipped from our distribution centers. This person checks that product is released correctly, makes sure product holds and status changes are accurate in the inventory system, decides what happens to aged, damaged or non-conforming stock (release, donation, salvage or destruction), and keeps the warehouse in compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). The role works independently on the warehouse floor and works closely with warehouse operations, supply planning, transportation, contract manufacturers, third-party warehouses, food banks and outside service vendors. QA Technicians have the authority to place product on hold or stop shipment if a quality problem is found.
Responsibilities
- Review incoming product made at a coman against approved specifications, Certificates of Analysis (COA) and Certificates of Conformance before releasing it for sale.
- Follow up with contract manufacturers and internal teams to obtain missing or corrected COAs so product can be released on time.
- Record inspection results and prepare release documentation for products released under an approved deviation or exception, for manager approval.
- Monitor outstanding releases daily and escalate anything at risk of delaying shipments.
- Verify that expiration dates, lot numbers and UPC codes on labels match the system and the supplier paperwork; correct system data or quarantine product when they don’t.
- Process product status-change and shelf-life (salvage date) extension requests accurately, applying them only to the specific pallets, lots and quantities requested, and notify other affected sites.
- Place product on hold quickly when requested by a manufacturing site or Quality, pull affected pallets from pick locations, confirm quantities and move them to the quality hold area.
- Physically inspect product for damage, mislabeling or packaging issues and provide photos and findings to stakeholders (e.g., new packaging validation, mis-ship investigations).
- Pull and ship samples to labs or certification bodies when requested.
- Follow up on open nonconformance reports until they are closed.
- Make sure all blocked or held stock carries the correct hold reason and disposition code and follow up with the source site when it doesn’t.
- Run and review daily inventory reports for blocked stock, customer returns, inventory adjustments and destructions; investigate anything unexpected.
- Confirm the condition of returned or refused product so it can be received back into inventory or dispositioned.
- Review the weekly aging-stock report to identify product that should move to donation or destruction before it expires.
- Manage the full donation process: offer eligible product to food bank partners, confirm acceptance, prepare donation order requests, and coordinate pickup with transportation before deadlines.
