Quality Assurance Technician

About the Role

Smurfit Westrock (NYSE:SW) is the leader and partner of choice in sustainable packaging, dedicated to creating efficient and scalable paper and packaging solutions. This Quality Assurance Technician role encompasses five distinct sets of responsibilities: Work-in-Process Auditor, Final Auditor, Sample Auditor, Finished Goods Sorting Coordinator, and Work-in-Process Sorter. All roles involve documenting and sampling to ensure quality folding cartons meet customer specifications before delivery. If non-conformities are detected, the technician places the order on hold, provides accurate disposition, and segregates cartons to prevent mixing.

Responsibilities

• Work-in-Process Sorter: Identify pallets of non-conforming cartons, move to sorting area, sort cartons, measure, convert total non-conforming cartons using a conversion chart, complete paperwork, follow disposition instructions from QA Manager or QA Lead, and perform line clearance.
• Final Auditor: Conduct physical inspections of random samples, pull samples for customers and sales representatives, complete paperwork (e.g., Customer Sample/COC), audit completed cases from conveyors, flag/segregate non-conforming cartons, and notify Account Coordinator of shortages.
• Sample Auditor: Perform statistical sampling according to customer specifications and complete COC/Analysis as applicable.
• Finished Goods and WIP Sorting: Perform line clearance, sort cartons, complete documentation, and move cartons to the finishing goods staging area.
• Provide assistance to the QA Manager or QA Lead as requested.
• Promote teamwork at all levels of the company.
• Adhere to all regulations, policies, work procedures, safety rules, security procedures, and instructions.
• Perform duties according to established safety policies, including wearing required PPE.
• Follow all SQF requirements and immediately report food safety concerns to management.

Requirements

• 5 years of work-related experience in a manufacturing environment and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience (quality-related field preferred).
• Good computer skills.
• Strong problem-solving skills.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Good communication skills.
• Proficiency in mathematics, including understanding measurements.
• Ability to work in a team environment.
• Ability to work without close supervision.
• Must pass a color blindness test.
