Position Summary

Under the direction of the Quality Assurance (QA) Manager, this Position contributes to the TOPY manufacturing process through performing quality assignments personally or through the actions of subordinates from within the quality department to meet the objectives and targets established by upper management of the company.

Responsibilities

  • Achieves the quality department targets by ensuring quality produced disc, rim, and wheel products.
  • Maintains, corrects, and supports a safe working environment in his department and in the plant.
  • Strives to achieve the highest quality wheels by continuously checking the process daily for potential quality issues and immediately addressing them when discovered.
  • Trains Associates in the fundamentals of wheel inspection, ensuring that they understand the quality requirements at each process.
  • Safeguards the Company’s investment in machinery and equipment by ensuring that his Associates understand the fundamentals of TPM (Total Production Maintenance), and are practicing them on a daily basis.
  • Manages the manpower assigned to his shift to guarantee quality checks are routinely completed. This can be accomplished by cross-training associates on more than one manufacturing line, planning for manpower shortages, and selecting the best people to fill open positions.
  • Ensures that housekeeping in the work environment is practiced on a daily basis using the 5S principles by monitoring the plant conditions and offering suggestions for improvement.
  • Immediately addresses quality related issues, including communication of equipment and machine breakdowns, scrap, quality holds, quality lab concerns, gage control, calibration, trial requests, work requests, and shipping requests to guarantee departmental performance.
  • Continuously reviews the process and product for continuous improvement opportunities and works with his Associates, Staff, and Management to implement positive change through Kaizen and Quality Circle activities.
  • Reviews his department for environmental impacts and compliance, addressing issues immediately when noted.
  • Understands the IATF16949, ISO/IEC 17025, and ISO14000 requirements and supports the process to maintain these designations.
  • Maintains an excellent relationship with all support departments and staff.
  • Understands and supports the positions and Human Resource policies of the Company.
  • Exercises strict cost control and containment regarding the department’s budget.
  • Completes the administrative functions of the job, including timesheets, payroll, check sheets, work reports, and other documents as required.
  • Assists the Manager in various tasks as required.
  • Attends scheduled required meetings.
  • Performs a fair and unbiased annual Performance Review for each Associate, using the requirements for each job as a guideline. The annual review should include an Action Plan for the Associate’s improvement and a timetable for the improvement items to be met.

Knowledge & Skill Requirements

  • Experience enforcing and possessing understanding of policies supporting safety, quality, customer specification, and HR policy.
  • Experience with IATF16949 preferred.
  • Excellent problem-solving, diagnostic, and organizational skills.
  • Solid communication skills to assist with problem resolutions, and to maintain strong interpersonal relations.
  • Ability to complete various reports and documentation of departmental activities using Windows Office.
  • Ability to work under high stress and deadline pressures.
  • Ability to contribute as a team member to accomplish the goals and objectives set forth.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position oversees quality department activities of the assigned areas. The position supervises up to 14 hourly associates.

Work Environment

  • Routinely uses standard office equipment (i.e. computers, phones, copiers, filing cabinets, fax machines).
  • Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and vibration.
  • Occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions both indoors and outdoors.
  • Moderate noise level.
  • Frequently exposed to hot, wet, and/or humid conditions.
  • Occasionally exposed to oil and other petroleum products.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to sit, stand, walk moderate distances, and use hands and fingers.
  • Handle or feel objects.
  • Regularly required to twist, bend, or stretch at the hips, waist, shoulders, back and neck.
  • Ability to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Ability to reach above and below shoulder height with hands and arms.
  • Ability to climb stairs or ladders.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting.
  • Frequently communicate with operators/team members safely.
  • Occasionally, lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds.

Position Type / Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Travel

This position may require occasional travel for quality-related training and/or customer issues.

Education

  • Associate’s degree or sufficient equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience within a supervisory role and at least 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
