Key Responsibilities
- Maintain HACCP, FSMA, SQF, FS22000, or other Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) certified programs.
- Ensure compliance with FDA, USDA, and local regulatory requirements.
- Monitor, test, hold, and release raw materials and finished products.
- Arrange and participate in internal audits.
- Assist with investigating product complaints, identifying non-conformance issues, and implementing corrective actions (CAPA).
- Maintain detailed records of inspections, audits, and process control, food safety, and quality checks in both soft and hard copies.
Essential Job Functions
- Assist in maintaining the documents for the maintenance of the GFSI/ SQF system.
- Develop and fortify continuous improvement of the firm’s food safety policies related to its quality training and safety program; its Standard Operating Procedures, Sanitation Operating Procedures, Food Safety Policies, and cGMPs.
- Perform detailed good manufacturing practices inspections and participate in corrective action meetings with the Quality Assurance Manager.
- Maintain and keep all Quality and Food Safety documentation in order, both electronically and in associated record binders and files.
- Takes minute meeting notes during the food safety meetings.
- Trains, coaches, and develops and supervises quality assurance technicians.
- Responsible for keeping a schedule of employee hours and assignments, preventing overtime hours, and participating in maintaining the Quality Assurance Department budget.
- Maintains product codes accuracy on finished products.
- Performs sanitation / hygiene inspections and enforces compliance of production areas, equipment, and food containers for cleanliness.
- Assists in troubleshooting quality and food safety-related issues.
- Oversees established calibration, testing program, and maintains records both electronically and physically.
- Aid in obtaining all raw material specifications and required regulatory documents.
- Investigate non-conforming materials and products.
- Performs food safety training program and ensures training of employees to adopt food safety practices and meet food and plant safety goals.
- Keeps a training matrix to track completed training for all associates.
- Oversees control of foreign material, including X-ray procedures, and holds and stops production for any material discovered with foreign material.
- Participates in root cause analysis.
- Performs various duties as required or directed by the Quality and Food Safety Manager.
Food Safety Responsibilities
- Good Manufacturing Practices and Sanitation effectiveness verification, including pre-operation inspections.
- Report, assist, and communicate to the Quality and Food Safety Manager of any food safety issues they observe with their supervisor.
- Aid in performing Label verification activities (Ensure the accuracy of labels to ensure ingredient declarations are accurate and allergens in the formula are listed on the finished goods label).
- Reinforces GMP, SOP, and SSOP compliance throughout the facility.
- Follow all Good Manufacturing Practices and Pre-requisite programs.
- Follow and enforce all Good Manufacturing Practices.
- Food Defense Team member.
- Responsible for the validation and verification of the SQF System.
- Communicate with the relevant staff their roles and responsibilities in the Safe Quality System.
- Coordinates and conducts management reviews of the SQF system.
- Takes appropriate action to ensure the integrity of the Safe Quality Food System.
Qualifications
- Holds and maintains Food Safety, (HACCP), cGMP, and PCQI certifications.
- Knowledge and understanding of Regulatory Compliance - USDA, FDA, HACCP, GMP & SSOP.
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry, or a combination of experience and education.
- 3-5 years of supervisory experience in a food manufacturing facility.
Physical Requirements
- Occasionally carry and/or lift 20 Lbs.
- Must be able to work in a loud environment.
- Exposure to temperature change.
- Vision abilities include close, distance, peripheral, and depth perception.
- Wear proper footwear.
- Ability to use office equipment including computer monitors, keyboard, telephone.
