About the Role
The Quality Assurance Lead (QA) associate is responsible for the overall quality of the product in the value-added departments. This is a hands-on role for quality control and will work closely with the value-added, inventory control, merchandising, and receiving departments.
Responsibilities
- Verify and assure all mandated HACCP checks and measures and supporting documents as outlined in the corporate SOP in an accurate and timely manner, documenting in Audit Comply.
- Perform Preoperational Inspection including ATP Testing and coach QA techs on pre-op programs and procedures when needed.
- Enforce colleague compliance with GMP’s, HACCP, and SOPs while monitoring the flow of commodities through the process flows in various Value-added departments.
- Work with the leadership team on coaching opportunities, training, and development.
- Operate metal detectors.
- Assist with training regarding continuous learnings of various food safety programs and compliance.
- Maintain compliance within the Value-added division of Critical Control Points; identify and respond to any product, processes, or equipment not within acceptable tolerances with immediate corrective action.
- Ensure all storage chemical cages and cabinets remain secure at all times.
- Communicate immediately with the Value-Added Leadership team regarding any issues for prompt resolution.
- Complete Environmental testing procedures according to the specific SOP.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Familiarity with produce or foodservice experience is preferred.
- HACCP Training.
- Familiarity with GMP’s and SOP’s.
- 1 year of produce experience in a quality assurance role.
Skills
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
- Basic mathematical operations (counting, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division).
- Clear communication skills (verbal and written).
- Detailed-oriented with strong reading, writing, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to prioritize and multi-task.
- Physical ability to bend, stoop, climb, and lift overhead.
- Safe and effective use of cutting tools such as knives and mandolins.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to work safely and effectively in confined spaces.
- Ability to operate processing machinery.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time.
- Ability to work in a very cold and wet environment for extended periods.
- Availability to work various shifts (AM or PM), including frequent overtime.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, an associate regularly works near moving mechanical apparatus and is regularly exposed to vibration and moderate to high noise levels. The work environment includes:
- Congested and high traffic areas.
- Slippery floors.
- Working alongside forklifts, single pallet jacks, electric walk-behind jacks, and hand carts.
- Walking and working on concrete flooring.
- Warehouse duties requiring work in varying climates, with temperatures ranging from the 30s in coolers.
- Occasional work in high and precarious places.
- Shift end-time fluctuates with the employer’s daily needs.
