Quality and Continuous Improvement Engineer

About the Role

This position leads and manages plant-wide efforts in quality, process control, and continuous improvement. It supports overall plant goals in safety, quality, productivity, and cost.

Responsibilities

• Ensure adherence to daily product control measures.
• Analyze historical trends and facilitate corrective actions.
• Manage suppliers of incoming raw materials.
• Oversee the quality lab, including supervision of quality technicians.
• Promote and maintain safety goals; lead safety and housekeeping efforts.
• Implement and monitor quality control procedures using SPC methods for raw materials and finished products.
• Promote a prevention-oriented, data-driven quality culture; serve as subject matter expert for systematic problem-solving and documentation.
• Use, promote, train, and facilitate Six Sigma tools and DMAIC problem-solving.
• Communicate with customers and suppliers regarding product quality reporting and concerns.
• Direct the Quality Lab, including process ownership, documentation, supervision of technicians, and management of lab equipment and software.
• Participate in joint technical meetings with customers, suppliers, and other facilities.
• Available after business hours for abnormal production/quality events.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in engineering (mechanical, electrical, chemical, materials) or related field.
• Experience in the fiberglass industry (raw materials, glass chemistry, batching, furnace operations, sizing, fiber forming, fiberglass mat production) preferred.
• Six Sigma Black Belt certification and experience in SPC.
• Experience managing people, multiple priorities, and projects.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Office products.
• Experience with Quality System software.
• Extensive working experience with statistical process control (SPC) methods and analysis.
• Ability and willingness to maintain expected attendance levels, work daily as scheduled, and arrive on time.

Training Requirements

• Stay current in quality and statistical process control methods, including Six Sigma and Lean.
• Maintain knowledge of fiberglass manufacturing developments via publications, industry conferences, and seminars.

Physical Demands

• Occasionally lift, carry, or move objects up to 20 lbs (e.g., office supplies, company activities).
• Regularly bend, stoop, stretch, and reach (e.g., investigating safety issues, stocking supplies).
• Frequently move about the facility to survey plant and associates.
• Regularly operate computers and office equipment.
• Occasionally attend off-site meetings.

PPE Requirements

• No PPE required unless working in plant areas.
• In plant areas: safety shoes, hearing protection, and safety glasses with side shields are required.
