The CTE Instructor will guide students in acquiring basic skills, knowledge, and attitudes as identified by district curriculum guidelines and industry standards. Under the guidance of the Qatqinniagvit Career Tech. Education Director and/or Manager, the instructor will provide the basis for instructional decision-making, tailoring programs to student interest and career pathways. Instruction will be individualized, accounting for differences in learning style, rate of learning, maturation, and achievement. Instructors are expected to vary materials, rate of instruction, and methodology based on frequent assessment.
This is a non-benefitted, grant-funded position. Subsequent years are reliant upon continuation of funds.
Requirements
- Alaska Teaching certificate with an endorsement in a CTE field preferred.
- Minimum of Alaska Type M certification in area of CTE required or ability to obtain certification within a specified timeframe.
- Knowledge & experience with culturally safe and responsive practices preferred.
- Knowledge & experience in trauma-engaged practices preferred.
- Positive school climate and restorative practices preferred.
- Iñupiaq language, history, and culture experience preferred.
Responsibilities
- Consult with the Qatqi..iaġvik CTE Director and Manager in program development.
- Create an authentic, consistent, strength-based, culturally safe, and responsive instructional environment through collaboration with staff, students, families, and community.
- Encourage and support a "Grow Your Own" career path for middle school and high school students.
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with North Slope entities to grow the Qatqi..iaġvik and CTE program to meet student goals and community needs.
- Promote and support School District Goals as defined in the Board of Education Strategic Plan.
- Participate in educational committees and organizations for the benefit of the District, the Qatqi..iaġvik program, personal growth, and the profession.
- Abide by the code of ethics and professional teaching standards adopted by the Professional Teaching Practice Commission of the State.
- Provide instruction in safety, particularly regarding power tools, machines, hand tools, hazardous materials, and protective gear.
- Stay current with practices and advancements in career and technical education.
- Adhere to all District policies and regulations.
- Perform other tasks and assume responsibilities as assigned by the Director and/or Manager.
Physical Requirements
- Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, use hands to handle tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms.
- Frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, and hear.
- Occasionally required to climb or balance.
- Must regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Environmental Conditions
- Regular travel within and outside the North Slope Borough School District, including flying in small and large commuter planes.
- Work environment noise level ranges from moderate to noisy.
