About the role
The Quality Assurance Technician is a critical part of the plant’s food-safety and quality system. This hands-on, highly interactive role operates in a fast-paced, ever-changing production environment. The technician monitors, documents, and enforces policies; trains key team members; and takes corrective action when required. Quick risk assessment, team leadership, and execution of plans are essential.
Position available on 1st shift at Plant 3.
Responsibilities
- Perform pre-operational inspection tasks (visual inspections, ATP/APC swabbing).
- Monitor process controls (CCPs, allergen control, foreign-material control, labeling requirements, package integrity, product specifications) to ensure adherence to all food-safety and quality programs.
- Collect samples for microbiological or chemical testing (APC, Staph, LAB, EB, fat, moisture, protein).
- Troubleshoot and take appropriate corrective action when deviations occur.
- Document, monitor, and analyze data to drive continuous improvement.
- Perform quality audits (AQLs) to ensure product meets specification.
- Investigate customer feedback and internal incidents; provide timely responses.
- Monitor employees for proper work conduct (GMPs, SOPs, SSOPs).
- Review paperwork for accuracy and compliance with food-safety and quality programs.
- Interact routinely with USDA FSIS inspection staff and plant management teams (production, maintenance, shipping/warehousing).
- Review monthly goals and continuous-improvement projects with quality-assurance supervisors.
- Work on agreed-upon continuous-improvement initiatives.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Quality Assurance Supervisor.
Requirements
- 1 year of experience in a quality-assurance role in a food-manufacturing facility or a college degree in a related field.
Skills
- Ability to speak, read, and interpret English-language documents (safety rules, instructions, procedure manuals).
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
