Purchasing Manager (Indy Equipment and Supply)
Purchasing Manager Overview
Indy Equipment and Supply is seeking a strategic and detail-oriented Purchasing Manager to lead procurement operations across our three locations. The role involves end-to-end supply chain management from scouting new product lines and negotiating high-level vendor contracts to maintaining precise inventory levels.
Responsibilities
- Vendor Relations: Act as the primary point of contact for existing vendors and aggressively scout new suppliers to expand product offerings.
- Contract Negotiation: Lead negotiations on product pricing and payment terms (including discount terms for early payment) to maximize profitability.
- Market Analysis: Conduct ongoing research into new product lines and monitor competitor pricing to ensure our stores remain market leaders.
- Procurement Oversight: Manage and approve the issuance and receiving of all Purchase Orders (POs).
- Inventor Optimization: Utilize inventory management software to establish stock levels.
- Multi-Location Balancing: Monitor stock across all three sites, coordinating transfers to ensure inventory is balanced based on demand.
- Financial Collaboration: Partner with the Accounts Payable department to ensure timely vendor payments and maintain a healthy credit standing.
- Inventory Accuracy: Coordinate and review weekly/monthly cycle counts and lead the comprehensive year-end physical inventory process.
- Volume Analysis: Regularly review purchase history to identify opportunities for volume-based pricing brackets.
- Process Streamlining: Empower store-level staff by training them on purchasing protocols and delegating routine orders to improve operational efficiency.
- Staff Development: Directly train and supervise employees involved in the receiving and purchasing process
Requirements
- Experience: 3–5+ years in purchasing, procurement, or inventory management (Retail or Multi-unit experience preferred).
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office; Strong ability to interpret data and inventory metrics.
- Negotiation Skills: Proven track record of successfully negotiating terms and pricing with suppliers.
- Logistics Mindset: Strong understanding of inventory "Min/Max" logic and cycle counting procedures.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for vendor meetings and internal training.
