Purchasing Buyer
Sources and Procures Materials
The Purchasing Buyer is responsible for sourcing and procuring materials, parts, supplies, equipment, and services in support of the manufacturing facility. This includes utilizing a strategic approach to understand markets for various commodities and using knowledge of market prices to negotiate contracts, pricing, and mitigate purchase price variances.
Supplier Management
The Purchasing Buyer manages supplier relationships, coordinates timely deliveries, and resolves late deliveries and expediting issues as necessary. They also analyze demand and usage information to create strategic actions that maximize volume purchases without excessive inventory impact.
ERP System Utilization
The Purchasing Buyer utilizes the ERP system for reorder point processes to prevent zero bin occurrences and mitigate impacts from long lead purchases. They also perform supplier assessments and maintain supplier report cards to ensure the best suppliers are used for procurement.
Defective Material Resolution
The Purchasing Buyer coordinates defective material resolution with suppliers and takes actions related to defective materials across multiple departments including engineering, manufacturing, inventory control, sales, and finance.
Engineering Change Notifications
The Purchasing Buyer coordinates Engineering Change Notifications with suppliers to ensure compliance and timely updates.
Other Duties
The Purchasing Buyer performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Strong proficiency in MS Office Suite (particularly strong in Excel and SharePoint applications)
- Demonstrated utilization of ERP systems as a key tool within job scopes (NetSuite a plus)
- Ability to read, understand, and have technical discussions with suppliers and internal teams regarding blueprints and specifications
- Familiarity with manufacturing, purchasing, and inventory control methods and processes
- Ability to prioritize work and multi-task to meet the demands of the project schedule
- Strong communication skills with vendors, customers, sales & marketing, and technical personnel
Preferred Requirements
- 5 years minimum work experience in a manufacturing environment (electrical applications a plus)
Education
- Bachelor’s or Associate degree with equivalent work experience
- Equivalent work experience without a degree = 10+ years
