Job Summary
The Purchasing Agent is responsible for executing daily procurement activities to ensure timely and cost-effective acquisition of materials. This role focuses on tactical purchasing, vendor communication, and inventory replenishment to support company profitability and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Purchase orders to meet customer demand and maintain optimal stock levels.
- Secure the lowest cost for materials through negotiation, quantity discounts, and buying alternative products when appropriate.
- Maintain efficient inventory levels using replenishment methods such as Min/Max, OP/OQ, and EOQ.
- Identify and help reduce slow-moving or excess inventory.
- Avoid freight expenses by assisting in vendor returns.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
- Recommend products and brands for which BSC is an authorized distributor.
Qualifications & Experience
- Educational background: High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Purchasing or procurement experience: 1–3 years required; industrial distribution experience preferred.
- ERP systems: Familiarity with Epicor Prophet 21 or similar ERP systems a plus.
- Skills: Strong analytical and mathematical aptitude; proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Personality traits: Team-oriented with excellent communication skills.
Salary Description
$75,000 - $85,000
