Key Responsibilities
- Disassemble, inspect, repair, reassemble, and test centrifugal pumps and related components.
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, repair scopes, process sheets, and written or verbal instructions.
- Perform precision mechanical work to close tolerances, including tolerances up to .0005” where required.
- Use precision measuring tools including gauges, calipers, micrometers, and related inspection equipment.
- Complete inspection reports, repair documentation, and required job records accurately.
- Identify worn, damaged, or out-of-tolerance components and communicate findings to supervision, technical support, or quality.
- Perform fitting, assembly, alignment, and related mechanical repair work.
- Sharpen tools and maintain tools, work areas, and equipment in a safe and orderly condition.
- Operate or assist with complex shop equipment requiring close attention and safe work practices.
- Follow established repair procedures, quality standards, safety rules, and company policies.
- Support the repair center’s ability to meet customer expectations for safety, quality, responsiveness, and on-time delivery.
- Work independently with minimal supervision while knowing when to escalate questions, risks, or repair concerns.
- Travel approximately 10–15% as needed to support field service callouts or customer site work.
Required Qualifications
- A high school diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in a centrifugal pump repair shop or closely related rotating equipment repair environment.
- A strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, work scopes, and technical instructions.
- Experience disassembling, repairing, reassembling, and testing centrifugal pumps.
- A proficiency with precision measuring tools including micrometers, calipers, gauges, and related equipment.
- The ability to complete inspection reports and repair documentation accurately.
- The ability to lift, carry, and handle components weighing approximately 5 to 60 pounds.
- The ability to stand for extended periods and work in an industrial repair shop environment.
- The ability to work overtime, call-ins, and occasional travel as business needs require.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with multiple pump types, sizes, and configurations.
- Experience supporting field service work or customer site repairs.
- A knowledge of pump fits, clearances, alignment, bearing installation, mechanical seals, impellers, sleeves, cases, shafts, and rotating assemblies.
- The ability to identify repair needs and communicate technical findings to supervisors, engineers, or customers.
- The ability to mentor less-experienced mechanics or assist with training when needed.
- A strong understanding of safety, quality, and customer-focused repair practices.
