Pulp and Power Team Leader

About the role

Domtar is seeking a full-time permanent Pulp and Power Team Leader for our Johnsonburg, Pennsylvania location. This role reports directly to both the Fiberline and Power and Recovery Superintendents and is responsible for all production-related activities on shift for the Pulp and Power Department, including safety, environment, and quality issues.

The Team Leader will assist the Fiberline and Power Recovery Superintendents in prioritizing maintenance needs and operator training, coordinate activities with other operating departments, technical and engineering support groups, maintenance, and the local community, and supervise operating and shift maintenance personnel.

This position ensures the Fiberline and Power and Recovery Departments operate in accordance with goals in safety, environmental stewardship, housekeeping, cost containment, organizational development, reliability, quality, production, and legal compliance.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate activities with other operating departments, technical and engineering support groups, maintenance, and the local community.
• Supervise operating and shift maintenance personnel.
• Ensure departments run in accordance with goals for safety, environmental stewardship, housekeeping, cost containment, organizational development, reliability, quality, production, and legal compliance.
• Assist in prioritizing maintenance needs and operator training.
• Perform physical tasks including walking, standing, climbing graded steel stairs/catwalks, ascending/descending ladders, and maintaining balance in an industrial setting.

Requirements

• Experience in the Pulp and Paper industry.
• Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
• Superior leadership skills.
• Willingness to work overtime and off-schedule hours as needed.
• Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent education.
• Must successfully complete a selection process including interviews, background check, pre-employment drug screen, and aptitude tests.

Qualifications

• Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in an engineering field or similar discipline.
• Previous supervisory experience.
• Basic knowledge of the kraft chemical recovery process and pulping process, including digester operation and the bleaching process.
• Familiarity with troubleshooting evaporators, concentrators, recovery boilers, lime kilns, recaustizing equipment, continuous digesters, pulp screening process, and bleaching is a plus.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and similar personal computer programs.
• Individuals with a desire to advance beyond this level of management will be considered.
