Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for providing adequate staffing of the pulmonary rehabilitation department.
- Assumes total responsibility for the pulmonary rehabilitation department in the absence of the director.
- Keeps the director informed and up to date of department operations.
- Performs all duties of a rehabilitative respiratory therapist such as family/patient COPD education.
- Makes sure exercise sessions are safe and appropriate for patients.
- Monitors and adjusts patients' exercise plans based on their responses.
- Recruits, interviews, evaluates, and schedules new patients.
- Teaches patients about the pulmonary rehabilitation program.
- Trains patients in smoking cessation and other respiratory care.
- Administers 6-minute walk tests and nebulizer treatments.
- Reports patient progress to doctors and helps improve the program.
- Maintains equipment and ensures it is safe and functioning properly.
- Ensures all policies and procedures are up-to-date and follow regulations.
- Acts as a liaison between the medical director and other staff.
- Maintains knowledge of the latest advancements in pulmonary rehabilitation.
- Provides guidance and support to other staff members.
- Works towards improving the pulmonary rehabilitation program.
Job Specifications
- Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge: RN, RRT, Bachelor's Degree preferred. Current state licensure or certification required. Two to three years of pulmonary rehabilitation experience preferred. Current CPR certification preferred. ACLS certification preferred.
- Skills: Must be able to function in a stressful environment and stay abreast of changing technology and regulations. Excellent communication skills. Knowledge of emergency equipment use. Knowledge of basic EKG’s and arrhythmia interpretation.
