About the role
Join the Penn State University Press marketing team and gain experience in the fast-paced worlds of book publishing and publicity!
Responsibilities
- Tracking review copies of books and other materials sent out for media and awards consideration
- Maintaining up-to-date information on review outlets and book prizes in the Press’s internal databases
- Preparing manuscripts for advance endorsements
- Creating drafts of marketing materials such as fliers and social media graphics in Adobe InDesign
- Aiding in the creation and scheduling of social media content and advertising
- Scanning published reviews for appropriate blurbs to appear on the web and other marketing materials
Requirements
Strong organizational and written skills required; digital content creation skills and experience with Adobe software is a plus. Candidates should also have a strong interest in publishing as a career, but do not need to be English majors.
Qualifications
Penn State University Press interns have gone on to work with such publishers as Elsevier, McGraw-Hill, Houghton-Mifflin, Avon Books, MIT Press, NYU Press, Oxford University Press, Princeton University Press, O'Reilly & Associates, University of California Press, Thames & Hudson, and other institutions such as libraries, museums, and communications companies.
Skills
Candidates should have strong organizational and written skills, as well as digital content creation skills and experience with Adobe software.

Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act and the Pennsylvania Act of 1988, Penn State publishes a combined Annual Security and Annual Fire Safety Report (ASR). The ASR includes crime statistics and institutional policies concerning campus security, such as those concerning alcohol and drug use, crime prevention, the reporting of crimes, sexual assault, and other matters.
