Public Utility Auditor - Entry, Senior, or Advanced
Position Summary
This positions is responsible for planning and performing municipal utility rate case and compliance audits. The complexity of these audits increases depending on the level and experience of the auditor. At all levels, the position may require testifying before the Commission on case filings and contested case hearings.
Responsibilities
- Entry Level: Perform and assist on routine and complex rate case audits, hold companies and affiliated interest filings, and participate on special studies.
- Senior Level: Independently plan and perform routine municipal utility rate case and compliance audits; assist with complex audit rate cases, fuel reconciliations, and fuel cost plans. Responsibilities include serving as a case coordinator, devising and implementing the audit program, reviewing working papers, and providing technical assistance on accounting and financial matters to work groups examining regulatory accounting matters.
- Advanced Level: Manage, plan, and perform complex energy utility rate case audits. This position will also perform as advanced auditor for highly complex rate case, fuel reconciliations, and fuel cost plan audits. Responsibilities include performing lead worker functions and reviewing working papers. Responsibilities also include providing technical assistance concerning advanced accounting and financial matters, and performing special studies for both the industry and the accounting discipline.
Qualifications
- Experience with presenting technical information to technical and non-technical audiences through written or verbal communication.
- Experience and/or education in the utility industry, such as regulatory principles or regulatory accounting.
- Experience forecasting data or numbers.
- Team, project or program management experience as well as experience analyzing complex data such as analyzing detailed billing structures, or analyzing data that has multiple inputs.
- Experience training lower-level staff; experience auditing the work of coworkers to ensure accuracy; experience forecasting data and recognizing trends; experience developing and implementing new policies and procedures.

Pay
- The Public Utility Auditor is in schedule-range (07-04) with an annual salary of $62,400-$74,381, depending on qualifications.
- The Public Utility Auditor - Senior is in schedule-range (07-03) with an annual salary of $72,800-$85,280, depending on qualifications.
- The Public Utility Auditor - Advanced is in schedule-range (07-02) with an annual salary of $87,360-$97,760, depending on qualifications.
