Public Utilities Maintenance Worker
Position Summary
Maintains and operates equipment and performs various maintenance duties within the Water Distribution Division. Classification level will be based on mastery of skill and division needs.
Essential Functions
- Maintenance Activities
- Replace or repair water lines for maintenance projects, install new water lines and sewer lines, repair manholes, repair and replace valves, hydrants, taps, and service meters. Use proper disinfection procedures for putting water mains back in service.
- Maintain basic knowledge of lift stations.
- Maintains an awareness of the operation of a variety of tools and equipment. Operates the tools and equipment assuring for compliance with safety procedures.
- Maintains an “on Call” status as scheduled assuring for coverage.
- Show the desire to learn how to operate various heavy equipment, including but not limited to backhoe, loader, tap machines, sewer flusher/Vac truck, trencher, dump trucks, and bobcat assuring for safety of self and others, and following proper operation procedures
Certifications
- Possession of a valid Kansas Driver's License.
- Possession of a valid Class B CDL or the ability to obtain a Class B CDL within the first 90 days of employment.

Pay
Compensation: This position starts at $17.45* per hour. *Hourly rate may vary based on education, experience or qualifications. * Starting pay is determined through our structured step-guidance placement process. This system helps ensure fair and consistent offers by reviewing each candidate’s education, experience, specialized skills, and overall qualifications. Your exact starting rate will fall within the posted range and will reflect where you are placed in the step-guidance system.
