About the role

Kitsap 911 in Bremerton, WA is seeking Public Safety Telecommunicator Trainees. This role is the initial step towards becoming a 911 Dispatcher, focusing on emergency communications.

Responsibilities

  • Study Standard Operations Procedures (S.O.P.) and manuals to understand Kitsap 911 operations.
  • Communicate effectively in person, over the phone, and in writing.
  • Make quick, accurate decisions affecting life and property.
  • Run license plate numbers and names as requested by officers.
  • Understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Operate CAD system and learn to dispatch calls.
  • Maintain knowledge of local landmarks and emergency services.
  • Operate and monitor law enforcement and fire consoles.
  • Handle off-duty call-ups and multiple responses.
  • Answer requests from emergency agencies and relay information.
  • Operate emergency TDD for hearing-impaired callers.
  • Work a variety of rotating shifts, including day, swing, and graveyard shifts.

Requirements

  • Must meet minimum criminal history standards set by the FBI and Washington State Patrol.
  • No felony convictions.
  • No misdemeanor convictions over 21 years old involving use or possession of firearms, violent crimes, sex offenses, or fraud.
  • No more than five misdemeanor convictions under 21 years old, or no more than three misdemeanors in the last three years.
  • No use or possession of any non-prescribed Schedule 1-5 drugs, including opiates or heroin, in the last three years.
  • No injection of any non-prescribed drugs.
  • No pre-employment drug test positive for cannabis/hashish.
  • No use or possession of illegal drugs after submitting an application, while employed, or after serving in a law enforcement agency.
  • No intentional inhalation (huffing) of any aerosols or substances in the last three years.

Qualifications

To be considered, candidates must successfully complete each phase of the hiring process, including passing the minimum qualifications and hiring standards. Applicants must also pass a typing test and provide employment and personal references.

Skills

Excellent communication skills, ability to focus under pressure, and proficiency in operating various communication systems are essential.
