About the role

The Public Safety Technology Manager is responsible for formulating and implementing processes and procedures for tracking and analyzing technical and financial data of Public Safety software, hardware, and equipment. This position also involves communicating with the IT Department and the Command Staff, ensuring compliance with Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) regulations and Law Enforcement Accreditation guidelines, and overseeing the administration and maintenance of public safety systems.

Responsibilities

  • Formulate and implement processes and procedures for tracking and analyzing technical and financial data of Public Safety software, hardware, and equipment from requisition through retirement.
  • Track and maintain copies of software licenses, warranties, maintenance agreements, and vendor contracts.
  • Enter all software and hardware serial numbers or identification tags into IT Inventory system and ensure information is up-to-date, accurate, and auditable.
  • Perform inventories and usage monitoring of all IT assets and record all findings, changes, physical location, and incidences of support.
  • Research industry best practices and compare against the organization’s practices in order to establish benchmarks for managing Public Safety IT assets.
  • Generate, distribute, and review relevant management reports.
  • Lead in the administration and maintaining operational capacity of public safety systems with respect to network connectivity, storage, and security infrastructure architecture.
  • Maintain accessibility at all times for all public safety staff.
  • Install, configure, and maintain CAD/RMS related systems and equipment.
  • Oversee and manage Public Safety information technology projects.
  • Implement and enforce access control policies and procedures, including granting and revoking access privileges as well as monitoring access logs.
  • Manage the creation of new user accounts including Active Directory accounts, assign Office 365 licenses; and security access; disable accounts upon notice.
  • Assist with management and enrollment of mobile devices such as iPad and iPhone.
  • Provide training on new hardware and/or software applications as requested.

Requirements

  • Minimum education and training: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field.
  • Experience and training: At least four (4) years of related work experience involving troubleshooting, installing, upgrading, or maintaining PCs, laptops, printers, or associated peripherals in a MS Windows-based environment with MS Office products.
  • Computer Industry Certifications: A+, N+, ITIL, and MCP preferred.
  • FDLE CJIS Certification within 6 months of hire.
  • Valid drivers license with an acceptable driving record.

Qualifications

  • Experience with desktop operating systems.
  • Extensive application support experience.
  • Working knowledge of a range of diagnostic utilities.
  • Good understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, with a focus on rapport-building, listening, and questioning skills.
  • Strong documentation skills.
  • Able to absorb and retain information quickly.
  • Fluent in spoken and written English.
  • Ability to communicate in Spanish is a plus.
  • Computer literate with knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and other similar programs.
  • Non-smoker.
