About the role
This individual will serve as the lead public safety official for the Law School campus and report all safety and security matters to the UNH Chief of Police. This individual will also coordinate work assignments and provide supervision to Public Safety Officers I (aka, Campus Service Officers) during scheduled working hours.
Responsibilities
- Prepare duty rosters based on safety and security patrol.
- Assure that all college/university life occupancy buildings are provided with maximum coverage on a continuous basis when the campus facility is open or being used for scheduled events.
- Schedule days off, holidays and vacations for assigned personnel according to workload requirements.
- Review work performance of Campus Service Officers and recommend further training as required.
- Advise Campus Service Officers on unusual conditions encountered during duty hours and respond to emergency situations.
- Prepare and maintain routine logs and records.
- Render assistance to the public.
- Enforce college/university rules and regulations.
- May protect college/university property.
- May search campus property during threats.
- May render first aid at accident scenes or disaster areas.
- Operate automobiles, two-way radios and other equipment, as required.
- Maintain computer records management systems.
- May patrol campus streets and grounds within assigned areas either on foot or in a vehicle equipped with a two-way radio to assure security of college/university property.
- May appear in court as a witness in criminal cases, or at hearings for student conduct.
- Considerable physical effort required while on duty; duties may demand continuous standing, walking, and occasional strenuous positions while performing duties under varying climatic conditions with exposure to accidents or occupational hazards that may result in disability or loss of life.
- To perform the duties of a Campus Service Officer at any given time during campus operations.
Requirements
- High school graduation or equivalent.
- Two years' experience in similar work with a public safety agency or equivalent.
- Working knowledge of state, municipal, federal and UNH system safety and security regulations.
- Supervisory ability.
- Knowledge of first aid techniques.
- Sufficient strength and physical dexterity to perform duties and responsibilities of this job, including heavy work with exposure to inclement weather for prolonged period of time.
- Must be able to wear and use appropriate personal protective equipment, as necessary.
- No criminal record other than minor motor vehicle violations.
- Must possess a valid driver's license.
- Must successfully complete a medical, psychological, and polygraph examination.
