About the role
We are searching for a talented Public Safety Officer I. This position performs all duties related to the protection and security of Southcoast Health System (SHS) and Southcoast Hospitals Group (SHG) assets, information, and the safety of all persons on hospital/SHS property.
Responsibilities
- Proactively guard against fire, theft, vandalism, and unauthorized entry to SHG grounds and/or buildings.
- Control access points to hospital property.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required; associate degree preferred.
- Prior military, security, corrections, police, or relevant experience a plus.
- Over three months up to and including one year of experience required.
- Valid Driver’s License required.
- Must obtain a Massachusetts Firearms Identification Card and License to Carry Firearms (Pistol Permit) within six months to one year.
- Must complete Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB) De-Escalation Training; OC Pepper (OCAT), Handcuffing (PATH), Baton (PPBT) education and training within 120 days of hire.
- BLS, CPR, and First Responder certification required within 120 days of hire.
- Eligible to obtain appointment as a special police officer in Massachusetts under MGL c.22C Section 63 or as a New Bedford Special Police Officer.
- Must obtain International Association of Healthcare Safety and Security (IAHSS) Basic Officer Certification within one year of appointment.
- Must be fully vaccinated against seasonal Influenza and COVID-19 or provide a signed exemption statement for medical or personal reasons.

Pay
Pay rate will be determined based on level of experience. Pay Range USD $22.22 - USD $30.30 /Hr.
Schedule
- 40 hours per week.
- Day shift: 6:45 AM - 3:15 PM with weekend and holiday rotation.
