Average Workday

• Protect life and property through law enforcement and firefighting work.
• Respond to emergencies, disorder, crime, and fires via radio, telephone, or in person.
• Develop and present educational programs to students in the school system.
• Interview persons with complaints or inquiries, take statements, and direct them to the proper authorities.
• Conduct preliminary investigations, gather evidence, and locate witnesses.
• Make arrests and/or take prisoners to jail.
• Visit crime scenes, search for and preserve evidence, investigate clues, and apprehend violators.
• Ensure prisoners are charged, processed, and confined.
• Compose written reports.
• Appear in court to present evidence and/or testify as required.
• Conduct specialized investigations.
• Administer basic first aid.
• Attend in-service training and practice use of firearms.
