Position Summary

The Public Safety Officer (PSO) is a uniform position responsible for supporting Public Safety operations at Children’s Wisconsin facilities. Duties may include, but are not limited to, patrols, responding to emergent situations, inspections, and weapon screening.

Duties

  • Patrols assigned areas of facilities and grounds and responds to emergent situations and calls for service.
  • Performs inspection tours and investigates incidents.
  • Verbal de-escalation and physical restraint of patients or disruptive individuals, if needed.
  • Performs Weapon Screening services to prevent weapons and other prohibited property from entering Children’s property.
  • Secures property/evidence as needed/directed.
  • Liaison with local law enforcement.

Requirements

  • Licensure, Registration and/or Certification: Valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record, ability to be insured by CHHS carrier. IAHSS Basic certification within 6 months of hire or promotion. DTS certification within 3 months of hire or promotion. CPR certification within 3 months of hire or promotion. MCPP certification within 1 year of hire or promotion.
  • Education: High School graduate or GED/HSED. Post-high school coursework in criminal justice or equivalent field of study preferred.
  • Experience: At least one year of previous security experience required.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Guiding behaviors reflecting Children’s values and mission/vision.
  • Reading and writing to review and complete incident reports and perform recordkeeping activities.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills to utilize hospital software applications and systems.
  • Analytical skills to inspect hospital areas, ensure security, and prepare incident reports.

Certifications/Licenses

  • BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/National Safety Council.
  • License: Driver’s License - State of Wisconsin.
