About the role
The Public Relations Coordinator at the Abilene Recovery Council’s Prevention Resource Center (PRC) plays a crucial role in strengthening communities across 30 counties in Region 2. This position involves connecting with schools, organizations, and community leaders to share vital prevention resources, promote behavioral health awareness, and amplify pro-social messages.
Responsibilities
- Build relationships with schools, universities, and community organizations to strengthen prevention networks.
- Promote participation in the Texas School Survey and gather valuable data to assess local needs and trends.
- Support the Program Director in planning and hosting regional prevention trainings.
- Manage PRC’s website, blogs, and social media platforms to keep communities informed and engaged.
- Help develop impactful media campaigns addressing alcohol, tobacco, marijuana, and prescription drug misuse.
- Partner with media outlets to promote statewide prevention campaigns, behavioral health promotion, and pro-social messaging.
- Attend statewide trainings and professional development opportunities to advance expertise.
- Actively work toward a Certified Prevention Specialist credential (training, testing, and initial certification fees covered by the Council).
Requirements
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
- Creativity and independence, paired with strong organizational skills.
- A collaborative mindset and respect for others in all interactions.
- To have up-to-date knowledge (or willingness to learn) about substance use prevention issues.
- A reliable vehicle and the ability to travel across Region 2 (mileage reimbursed).
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or GED.
- College experience or equivalent work experience in Marketing, Advertising, Public Relations, or a related field preferred.
- At least 1 year of professional or volunteer experience in PR, communications, or prevention work preferred.
