About the role
Under the direct supervision of a Public Partnerships Specialist, North America team, PPR North America and IFIs Pillar (Washington DC) and in collaboration with colleagues from across the Programme Group’s (PG) Health Emergency Preparedness, Response, and Resilience (HEPR) team, the incumbent will:
- Deepen collaboration with key U.S. Government stakeholders, provide an interface for knowledge exchange, resource mobilization, and policy influence within the scope of the assignment.
- Ensure documentation of quality programming outputs in line with relevant agreement reporting requirements.
- Provide targeted support for senior staff operations and administrative support services.
- Contribute to the implementation of the work plan for assigned areas, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery of results in accordance with UNICEF’s partnership strategy and associated UNICEF–US Government agreement requirements.
- Build and maintain UNICEF’s partnerships by supporting the development and implementation of standards and guidance for UNICEF partnerships, and formulation of work plans and strategies.
- Support the development of frameworks and templates, and review partner agreements and amendments for senior staff approval, ensuring compliance with UNICEF rules and regulations.
- Maintain up-to-date information on partner and income trends, analyze development assistance policies, and keep resource partner profiles updated.
- Coordinate with UNICEF’s Health Emergency Preparedness, Response, and Resilience (HEPR) team on emerging Infectious Disease Outbreak response priorities and other US-funded programming to ensure donor requirements are met.
- Maintain effective relationships with relevant partners to keep them informed on important, strategic operational UNICEF issues.
- Attend meetings, take notes, share information, and support joint information programs to increase UNICEF’s profile and protect its interests.
- Support efforts to demonstrate the impact of UNICEF’s programs and contribute to ideas for new and existing synergies to support a more effective and efficient approach to program delivery.
- Collate and share relevant discussion and feedback on program activities and issues of priority to UNICEF to inform future activities.
- Gather inputs from UNICEF that will contribute to inter-governmental/inter-agency work to ensure UNICEF positions are properly explained and taken into account in decision-making.
- Maintain awareness of current activities and political and social events of the US Government, the UN, and other multilateral bodies/governments to understand their impact on UNICEF activities and provide timely information for decision-making.
- Conduct research on prospective new partners for UNICEF and provide analysis of their areas of work, outreach, financial base, and reputation.
- Coordinate and support UNICEF management’s engagement activities, including preparation of briefing materials, talking points, and correspondence for meetings with US Government colleagues and other stakeholders.
- Provide specific administrative support services to PG-HEPR Associate Director upon request, including organizing official travel, preparing briefing materials for official trips or meetings related to US Government-funded programs, coordinating responses to time-sensitive inquiries, and providing meeting support for engagements with US or DC-based partners.
Requirements
- Education: A first-level university degree is required in one of the following fields: international relations, political science, communications, international development, or another relevant technical field.
- Work Experience: A minimum of two years of professional experience in one or more of the following areas is required: public affairs, program management, resource mobilization, external relations, or another relevant area.
- Skills: International Development, International Relations, Program Management, Public Affairs, Resource Mobilization, Public Partnerships.
- Language Requirements: Proficiency in English is required.
Desired Qualifications
- Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) or a local language.
- Experience with US government partnerships, donor compliance and reporting, global health emergency programming, infectious disease outbreak response, interagency coordination, multilateral funding mechanisms, executive briefing, or engaging Washington DC stakeholders.
- Proficiency in French or Spanish is considered an asset.
- Relevant experience at country level, particularly in development, fragile settings, and humanitarian contexts.
