About the role

The Public Health Program Manager I - Communications, manages and oversees public health information and communication systems and resources and assists with identifying and providing public health training within the Division of Local Health.

Responsibilities

  • Developing and implementing communication plans
  • Acting as an advisor and supporting district office and public health program projects
  • Elevating examples of Local Health's contributions to public health in Vermont
  • Developing and/or editing communication products
  • Maintaining division webpages and social media accounts
  • Cooking the work of division web and social media editors
  • Promoting and integrating health equity and accessibility strategies into communication efforts
  • Aiding in developing and training a diverse public health workforce in communications and public health practice

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in public health, public administration, business administration, environmental science, emergency response, human services, social sciences related fields or health-related fields AND one (1) year or more of experience in public health or human services related programmatic work including experience leading a team or project.
  • OR Bachelor’s degree in public health, public administration, business administration, environmental science, emergency response, human services, social sciences related fields or health-related fields AND two (2) years or more of experience in public health or human services related programmatic work including experience leading a team or project.
  • OR Two (2) years or more of experience as a Public Health Specialist II.
  • OR One (1) year or more of experience as Public Health Specialist III.

Qualifications

  • Experience leading a team or project.
  • Experience in health or public health communication with skills including: Knowledge and expertise in the development, management, and evaluation of communication plans and campaigns, and the ability to use a health equity lens to improve the impact of messaging and avoid bias and stigmatization.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of public health.
  • Knowledge of educational principles and training procedures.
  • Ability to take information and create messages for different audiences.
  • Experience with project management and comfort working with subject matter experts and stakeholders, to see projects through to completion.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment where information can change quickly.
  • Strong experience with web editing, social media management, Microsoft Office 365 applications, and the ability to understand and use analytics to drive improvement.
