About the role
The Public Health Nursing Supervisor leads Immunizations and Family Planning services within the clinics under the Public Health Nursing Manager. This leadership role is responsible for overseeing clinical operations, supervising nursing and support staff, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based services that promote disease prevention, reproductive health, and overall community well-being.
Responsibilities
- Assists the nurse manager and division administration in the development and implementation of nursing policies and procedures;
- Acts as a preceptor for new nurses;
- Affirms compliance with regulatory vaccine inventory, ordering, storage, and reporting and assists Nurse Manager/Vaccine Officer with quality audits;
- Ensures all nurses implement best practices in compliance with the outpatient treatment center licensing rules and Pima County Health Department (PCHD) policies and procedures;
- Participates in QA/QI activities to improve service delivery;
- Conducts performance appraisals and implements performance management strategies as needed;
- Maintains clear communication with the clinic nurse manager and Deputy Division Manager to include incident reporting, disciplinary issues, and changes in workflow or practices;
- Communicates in a timely manner any relevant PCHD updates or changes to guidelines for services to all nursing staff;
- Captures and participates in nursing outreach events and/or mobile outreach;
- Performs phlebotomies, trains staff, and assists in the lab when needed;
- Assists with recruitment of clinic staff;
- Participates in emergency preparedness activities and acts as a nursing lead for Incident Command (IC) when needed.
Requirements
- Graduation from an accredited school of nursing, licensed to practice in the state of AZ AND four years of experience working as a registered nurse INCLUDING proficiency performing phlebotomies. Or Three years with Pima County in a Public Health Registered Nurse position.
Qualifications
- Minimum one (1) year of leadership or supervisory experience.
- Minimum one (1) year experience working in public or community health clinic setting.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish).
