Public Health Nursing Supervisor

Responsibilities
- Performs the duties of Health Officer in the absence of the manager.
- Supervises, directs, and evaluates nursing staff activities.
- Affirmatively participates in the process of budget planning and monitoring.
- Assists and responds to on-call Public Health Division staff outside of the core business hours.
- Collects, reviews, and analyzes community health data.
- Provides information and referral services to the general public, medical and human service community.
- Provides case management and nursing care to individuals, families and communities utilizing the nursing process.
- Maintains a leadership role in the Public Health Division emergency response for the Public Health Nursing Unit.
- Completes and maintains applicable training/certificates to support emergency response roles and responsibilities.
- Participates in Divisional Quality Improvement, Performance Management, Strategic Planning, Workforce Development, Community Assessment, Community Health Improvement Planning activities.
- Coordinates clinical practice experiences for nursing students and resident physicians.
- Maintains regular and predictable attendance, works extra hours as required.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing and three to five years clinical required.
- Public health nursing experience preferred.
- Wisconsin license as a Registered Nurse required.
- Current CPR certification required.
- Two years of supervisory experience preferred.
Qualifications
- Ability to operate a variety of medical equipment including anemia, cholesterol, and blood sugar screening equipment, stethoscope, thermometer, scale, etc.
- Ability to give immunizations.
- Ability to transport self to and from various locations in a timely and efficient manner.
- Ability to assign, supervise, and review the work of others in a timely manner.
- Ability to coordinate functions of division with the Manager.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, calculate decimals and percentages, and make use of the principles of high school algebra.
- Ability to comprehend and interpret a variety of documents including referrals, client records, lab reports, policy manuals, medical references, etc.
- Ability to prepare a variety of documents including performance evaluations, letters, referrals, reports, etc.
- Ability to use and interpret medical terminology.
- Ability to communicate effectively with subordinates, superiors, physicians, school personnel, home care, public health, government, and others verbally and in writing.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, pull and move objects up to 50 pounds, understanding and utilizing proper body mechanics.
