Public Arts Intern

Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Assistant Director of Library, Arts & Culture of the City of Glendale’s Library, Arts & Culture department, the Public Arts Intern will assist in providing programmatic and marketing support to the Arts & Culture Commission’s initiatives including but not limited to: Adams Square Mini Park, Gas Station Exhibits, Beyond the Box – Utility Box Mural Art Program, and Jewel City Concert Series. The Public Arts Intern will also assist in producing the Spotlight Series (podcast highlighting arts and culture organizations in Glendale) and updating the Glendale Public Art Map.

Requirements

Compensation: $18.47/hour
Term: October 2026–February 2027
Schedule: PT (20–30 hours/week)

Key Details

• Eligibility: Currently enrolled undergraduate college student or recent graduate who completed their undergraduate degree from May 1 – September 30, 2026
• Minimum Requirements: Equivalent combination of experience and education sufficient to perform the essential job functions and provide the required knowledge and abilities
• Experience: No specific requirement
• Education/Training: Must be currently enrolled in a community college in pursuit of an undergraduate degree. Must attach proof of enrollment via transcript. Failure to attach transcript or proof will result in automatic disqualification of application.
• Licenses/Certifications: Valid Class C California driver’s license is required.
• Knowledge: Exceptional customer service practices, basic mathematical operations, basic office computer systems and applicable software, proper English, spelling, and grammar.
• Skills: Ability to provide exceptional customer service to those using the Library, Arts & Culture Department, model and practice the highest standards of ethical conduct, read, write, communicate effectively and comprehend directions in English.
• Other Characteristics: Willingness to assume responsibility for maintaining a safe working environment, complete 400 hours of service by the end of February 2027, work the necessary hours and times, including overtime, to accomplish goals, objectives and required tasks.

Founded in 1907, GLAC includes eight neighborhood libraries including the Brand Library & Art Center, a regional visual arts and music library, galleries, and performance venue housed in the historic 1904 mansion of Glendale pioneer Leslie Brand; and the Central Library, a 93,000 square foot center of community where individuals convene, collaborate, and create. In addition to the galleries at Brand, GLAC also hosts the ReflectSpace Gallery at Central Library. As a member of the International Coalition of Sites of Conscience, ReflectSpace is an exhibition space designed to explore and reflect on genocides, and human and civil rights violations.
