Who You Are

Versar’s Environmental Services Group has an immediate opening for a PTOC Senior Benthic Ecologist to augment its Natural Resources team in Columbia, MD. The ideal candidate will have 25+ years of related experience and be able to assist the company with marine/estuarine project management and execution. Knowledge of estuarine benthic ecology is required.

What You’ll Do

  • Manage marine/estuarine biological monitoring and assessment projects, and related data analysis and reporting tasks.
  • Support field sampling and laboratory operations.
  • Meet clients’ needs related to marine/estuarine project management with emphasis on benthic ecology.
  • Conduct analysis of marine/estuarine benthic macroinvertebrate, water chemistry, and sediment data.
  • Report on the biological, chemical, and physical condition of the marine waters located in the Mid-Atlantic Bight.
  • Maintain client relationships via meetings and conference calls.
  • Communicate with government, academic, industry researchers, and Chesapeake Bay Program partners via meetings, workgroups, and in relevant scientific conferences.
  • Research, acquire, and synthesize scientific literature and data.
  • Support other Columbia office projects.

What You’ll Bring

  • PhD degree in marine science or related field required.
  • 25+ years technical experience in conducting marine/estuarine science projects with a focus on benthic ecology.
  • Excellent communication skills, as well as strong conceptual, organizational, problem solving and research abilities.
  • Strong analytical and writing skills, as well as the ability to orally present results to the scientific community are necessary for this position.
  • The ability and flexibility to work with a variety of staff, projects, and task timelines simultaneously is critical to this position.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and team player with a strong focus on quality and client service.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite.
  • Experience in statistical applications and ecological problems (programming skills required, preferably in R and/or SAS).
  • Public participation, agency coordination, and planning is a plus (but not required).

Location Requirements

The position will primarily work onsite reporting to Versar’s office in Columbia, MD.
