About the role

Provides instructional support to special education teacher; assists in teaching daily living skills, social skills, leisure-time activity skills, specific self-help skills, community access and mobility skills.

Responsibilities

• Assists in teaching daily living skills, social skills, leisure-time activity skills, specific self-help skills, community access and mobility skills
• Encourages and reinforces students, building self-image and helping them to be responsible
• Aids in student behavior management
• Teaches small groups in basic reading and math skills
• Tracks student progress and collects behavioral data
• Follows behavior system and classroom management program
• Maintains positive working relationships with students and staff
• Maintains confidentiality
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent required
• Associate Degree, 48 semester hours of college credit or must have passed the Para-Pro Test or be willing to take and pass the Para-Pro Test immediately upon hire
• Successful experience working with children at risk
• Successful experience as an at-risk teaching assistant

Qualifications

Ability to lift 45 pounds; follows teacher's program when working with students; maintains positive working relationships with students and staff; maintains confidentiality.
