Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Provide instructional support (assisting with instructional duties and specialized tasks, working with individuals, small groups, or large groups, providing programmed practice activities and repetitions, adapting classroom activities, assignments, and materials, assisting students with electronic communication devices, switches, pointers, feeders, performing clerical tasks, maintaining instructional materials, administering tests, homework, making up work, serving as an information source for substitute teachers, participating in the development and support of special education programs).
  • Provide student behavior & safety support (participating in implementing student behavior plans, assisting with behavior modification and de-escalation techniques, monitoring students in various environments to maintain safety, monitoring student behavior, time-outs, and in-class detentions, encouraging positive attitudes and self-esteem, responding to emergency situations, recording and reporting student concerns promptly, modeling appropriate social behavior, maintaining ethical behavior and confidentiality, monitoring daily schedules and behavior plans).
  • Aid with personal care & mobility (assisting with personal care: toileting, hygiene, diapering, clothing, wash-up, assisting with breakfast, lunch, snacks, and clean-up, supporting feeding tasks, lifting, moving, and operating adaptive equipment, assisting with mobility needs: lifting/positioning, wheelchairs, loading/unloading buses, escorting students around school and on field trips).

Collaboration, Communication & Administrative Duties

  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, medical professionals, and therapists.
  • Maintain records and files.
  • Communicate student concerns and help resolve issues.
  • Support substitute teachers.
  • Maintain professional competence.

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements

  • PreK: Associate's degree in early childhood or at least 60 college credit hours and at least 12 early childhood college credit hours, or high school diploma/GED, meeting minimum standard of ACT WorkKeys Silver level certification scores, and at least 12 early childhood college credit hours.
  • K-12: High school diploma/GED, meeting minimum standard of ACT WorkKeys Silver level certification scores, and at least 12 early childhood college credit hours, or Associate's degree or higher, or at least 48 college credit hours.

Skills, Abilities And Knowledge

  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work with teachers and students to demonstrate ways of supporting students in the classroom.
