About the Role

Provide one-on-one student support to help teachers address individual student needs, both academically and socially, preparing students for school success.

Responsibilities

  • Assist licensed personnel in the school environment.
  • Provide support with individual program materials and supplementary work for students.
  • Assist with student discipline and maintain student involvement in appropriate tasks.
  • Supervise independent study and respond to students as individuals.
  • Help maintain cohesiveness in the school environment and serve as a role model.
  • Work as a member of a team and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Use current technology for instruction and management needs.
  • Work under the supervision of certified teachers and the principal.
  • Assist in preparing program and classroom activities.
  • Reinforce material introduced by the teacher with small groups or individual students.
  • Assist with classroom instruction and the implementation of program goals and objectives.
  • Reinforce teacher-planned lessons and assist with testing as needed.
  • Perform bridging activities in classrooms.
  • Be familiar with textbooks, course content, and the home language of students.
  • Follow district and school procedures.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Principal or central office administrators.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • AA degree, 45 college hours (including necessary educational courses), or passing the ParaEducator exam.
  • Possess a Level III New Mexico Educational Assistant license and a Substitute license.
  • Ability to sit, stand, lift, move about the room or school, carry up to 50 pounds, reach, squat, kneel, type for prolonged periods, and move light furniture.
  • Ability to work in various noise levels, temperatures, and air quality conditions.
  • Flexibility, patience, and self-motivation to complete tasks without direct supervision.
  • Willingness to work after hours as required.

Equipment & Environment

  • Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printers, copy and fax machines, and telephones.
  • Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
  • Works in standard office and school building environments with routine interruptions.

Salary and work calendar established yearly by the school board. FLSA Status: Non-exempt.
